On Saturday last b tililT Hampton went to Otvdoll oro bank to arrest Noah Corlilo, under a warrant for as sault with intout to murder. Know ing tho desperate character of tho ne gro, Mr. Hampton took along hib dou ble barrel shot gun. On approaching the negro ordered him to stop and not cotno closer, at tllo same timo arming himself with a pistol and rille. It imp- ton tried to reason with the negro, tolliug him he had a warrant for him, and it was hisyluty to arrost him, atul ho had better submit, and thou ad vanced toward tho negro, when he shot at him with his pistol. Hampton returned the tire, and au Garble made ready with his rille, Hampton let him have tho other barrel, which felled him to the ground. Wednesday eve ning Hampton delivered the negro (0 jailor Meeks, as ho was bound over to Superior Court by James Dennis, Esq. Dr. Richardson, Jr., has boon called to soe him. and says ho will recover. Throughout, Mr. Himptou was act ing in self-defence, us well us tho dis charge of duty. Monday morning might bo seen grouped about tho streets parties who had cotno up to attend the March term of cut* county court. Whilst they wore discussing the prospect of a distribution of justice, thoir doubts were put at rest by Judge W. M. Sparks, who lmd just rolled from the hollow of his excellency's hand, don ned with a judicial robe, who, walking iuto judge Brower’s office did a little swearing, passed into the court room with Ills heart joyous and free, hum ming “Prairie Flower," and occupied thesoat of hono*'. Those battling for their rights wore requested to come in and mnko known their wuuIb, while the baililV was directed to go out into tho highways and litunmouB twelve of tho business loving gentry to come up to the help of hi-i honor ug liest the disobedient. Those twelve declared it was a joke, but fearing to incur the wrath of his m ij sty, thoy went rp muttering and grumbling—ono saying he lmd married a wife, and others that they mu I look after th»;r merchan dise and agriculture. Tin y promised emso’ves on next court cljiy to bo mid about their business. Tho jury being sworn fn, tho civil docket was taken up, when, owing to some irregularity ef late in holding the court, parties in most cases in ked tho leniency of his honor, whoso magnanimity extended their day of sco to the 3d M. inlay iu April. Homo few judgments, however, were taken without trial. Tho criminal docket was called up, when three col ored gents who had been enjoying tho privileges of tho civil rights hill at the Meeks hotel, were inarched inside the bar to have their cases undergo invo:- tig ilion. Richard Pullen was put up on trial for larceny from tho hou-o of Mr. Bonds. Richard fluid ho was not guilty; it was all persecution, for tho corn tho witness talked about I10 took from another man, not Mr. Bond. So Richard prevailed upon tho jury to ) it him go, and so they did. Thou Griffin Ainous was called on to show cnyso for whipping his wife. Grill', too, was ns innocont as a limb Ho loved his wify, ho said, with all the ardor of his soul, an l meant only to stroke her caressingly, to tlnw tho deep, profound affection ho hud for )wn Honi'iotlu, and if his caresses ; painful to his love, it was because vus a hard lover and had his way of expressing it; that his honor and the jury ought to remember how they loved to play tag with their sweet hearts at school. Henrieita said may ho it was lovo-iuspirod licks, hut she preferred a soft luvor; tint a nice kiss and geutlo embrace was move pleas ant. His Honor told the jury most of them were married men; some of them scarcely out of tho honey moon; had JoVed and boon loved, and would have no trouble in uniting up their verdict. They knew wlmt was customary in such ernes. Probably some of the jury were not married, but some would be, and no doubt felt same degree cf love they ever would. The court hud no experience; had loved a few times and perhaps loved a. little now, but tho vain endeavor of the tongue was tho only manner of expression kaowu to him. The jury will first decide what love is, and its evidences, and if Amons’ conduct wag such your ver dict will be “not guilty." The jury retired and ugrted upon a verdict of guilty and returned to their seats. His honor thought tLey were right, and according to hia experience in lovo, a man will hardly knock down hia wife and stamp her to common her of his affection, and said to Amous,< “Twenty-five dollars and cost is cheap tuition to leurn how to love—go and lovo softly.” The other defendants decided to study over thoir cases till April term, and the court adjourned. Wo direct tho attention of our fanner friends to tho guano ndvortiso- mon of Mr. Huntington, in this paper, llo sells nothing but standard brands, at Romo and Atlanta prices and on lime, with cotton option; so his terms aro all that could bo asked, and loaves no excuse for going to Romo, which wo think is douo too much by our people, In buying thoir supplies, and wo beliovo that if our merchants would ndvortiso more, in tho Recoup, espe cially in tho local colums, this tiling of running off to Romo would gradu ally case. If you havo anything to Hell, there is “ nothing liko keeping tt before the people.” If incredulous at first., they will finally coucltnlo to go and soo foi* thomsolvos. “But wo di gress.” If you want guano, go to Huntington’s.
