Wo Iiftvo failed up to da to to copy
any of ilio glowing accounts of llio re
cent excursion of tlio Prots gang to
Tocoa aud Tallulah falls. Wo copy
tlio following paragraphs taken fiom
tho Camilla Enterprise) :
After a refreshing night of innocent
sweet repose, tho editors mot at tho
depot at 04 o’clock, n. in., and boarded
the Atlanta and Richmond Air-Liuo
Railroad to enjoy tho gonorous and
kind hospitalities of tho Atlanta Con
st itutiou. In a few minutes we are
leaving Atlanta aud her nubia cilizons
in tho dim distance, in company with
forty-eight of Georgia’s jolliest, witti
est sons. Wo sight Toccoa City and
arrive, whore aro provided by her no-
blo citizens hades and carriages to
transport us to Toccoa Falls, distant
two miles. After a delightful ride of
thirty minutes ovcr'tho mountains wo
sight tho falls—beautiful boyond ex
pression—when a burst of hearty sur
prise and wonder escapes the lips of
every one. A beautiful mountain
stroum, somo twenty feet wide, and an
clour as crystal, pours in a torrent of
spray and foam over a procipicd of
two hundred feet into a basin of solid
rock, some fifteen feet in depth. On
three sides arises in imposing grand
eur the presipilions sides of tho moun
tain. Full of adventuro, the younger
essay to climb tbo rugged dill's to
catch a viow of the grand speotaolo
from the frightful summit, aud to got
souvenirs. Truly these falls 1110 un
surpassed for beauty on tho Ameri
can continent. After taking in tho
entiro prospect hero, and after joining
some hulf dozen of our brethren in
the most delightful bathe wo ever had
we returned to Toccoa City to the
kind and gonorous hospitalities of Mr.
J. XL Payno, ono of tho best cilizons
of tho city, in company with three of
our brethren of tlio quill.
Early uoxtmoinfng wo were aboard
our backs for Tallulah Falls, sixteen
miles distant among tho mouutuius.
A jolly, happy crowd, bout on ploasuro
and'ught-Beeiug, nothing oBoapod ub.
At 1)|| o’clock u. m. wo reached
"TALLULAH T1IK TMUUlJLlf,”
which stands a monument to tlio un
known freaks of uaturo in ono of hor
most unaccountable acts. Going mer
rily over tlio mountains, drinking in
tho gorgooua beauty of tlio scenery,
and witnessing in silont 11 wo the ter
rible i/mndotU' of tlioso Yliffr m,,T
gorges, around which tho narrow road
winds in dangerous proximity to dark
yawning chasms, tho tourist is hold
spoil bound by tho prospect. With
tho Bluo Ridgo, Fun nosaw, Stono and
Lookout for a background, tho grand
eur of Tallulah Fulls and its innumer
able el ills, chasms and cascades to till
up tbo picture, it is altogether tho
most beautiful wo ever witnosaod.
Cot J. B. Gorman, a noted travolor,
who has sauntered through tho islos
of Groat Britain, orousod tlio English
channel, visited Franco, sailed on tho
olaesio bosom of tho Rhino, climbed
tho siilos of tho mountains of Switzer
land, ruminated ’mid tho ruins of
Romo and climbed tho Alps, and
stood upou thoir lofty summit and
looked upon the world as a panorama,

dour that surpasses that of Tallulah
"Tho Mayor was requested to call on
Dr. J. 0. Reoso for tho funds turned
over to[him by Messrs Munroo and
Cablo for tho purpose of fencing in
tho Coiuutory, and in tho event ho
refuses to sottlo to commoneo suit.’’
Tho uliovo I find among tho reso
lutions of the town council of Codar-
town, published in tho Record. You
will confer a great favor on mo by
publishing my explanation of this res
olution, or motive, and setting mo
right boforo your renders.
Tho resolution would Boom to im
ply that 1 had refused to settle with
tho town couueii for the money turn
ed over to mo by Ooblen and Monroe.
This I have novel - done, but have boon
always ready to pay it. over so soon ns
thoro was a sottlemout between my
self aud the council, aud this tho
members of tho oldeouucil well knew.
I have been holding up tho money by
tho authority and consent of tho old
council until there was a full settle
ment between us and payment of tho
claims that 1 held against tho town.
Uudor these circumssauces l think
tho threats to commence suit against
me was entirely uncalled for, and to
eay tho least of it exceedingly unjust,
though 1 am far faun attributing it
any malico or unkind feelings in
•tho council .agaiust me, but rather to
an oversight or ignorance of the facts

A Ccdartown man was entertaining
a friend not long sinco at his house,
whereupon his guest, who livos some
distance ofT, asked him if thoro was a

‘Oil, yes,’ ropliod tlio Ccdartown cit-

man in astonishment. ‘No, sir, but I
tuko ftvo other papers, if you wish to
look at any of thorn.’ ‘Well, no, your
town paper is what f wish to sec; but
bold on, my little man,’ calling to tbo
little follow who had been started out
papor borrowing, ’it may bo that tho
gcutloman or oorno of his family,
where you go to borrow, aro roading
their paper, and if they aro not, they
might perhaps want it boforo I got
through with It. Ho take this nicklo
and go to tho printing ofiico and buy
mo a copy.’ After tho boy bad turn
ed tho corner, tho guest turned to bis
host and addrossod him tliusly: ‘My
dear sir, you havo but little idea what
a confusion it creates in a family when
their homo paper is out of place, for
evory one of tho family that can road
is wuiting their turn to porsuo it, and
should it bo loaned out boforo tlio
wife aud children got to sco it, llioy
uro sorely voxed and greatly disap
pointed, and not only that, tho bor
rower \i lookod upou by that family
us being too stingy to pay for a papor
for liis family, therefore bo must irn-
poso upou bis neighbor who in striv
ing to make bis family happy.’
Tho goutleuinu got tho papor and
called in next day, throw two dollars
down upon our table for a year’s sub
set iption, leaving bis address with us.
IIo says that each week, after bo and
bis family aro through roading it, ho
intends to ro-iuail it to his friend in
Cednrtown, to koop him from unuoy-
ing his neighbors.
Wo loaru of a fatal shooting affray
which took place at Kingston on last
Sunday morning. Tho murshal and
deputy marshal of tho town culled up
Mr. Miller Collins, bar keeper at tho
Couch house, to got somo oysters, and
whilo tho door was open young Abda
Johnson and a younger brothor, went
in and asked for whisky. This was
about two o’clock Sunday morning.
Mr. .Collins told them ho could not
soil them whisky on Sunday, but
would give them ft drink, tolling thorn
to help theinui.luoa, which they did.
Thoy then naked for ft bottlo of whis
ky, which ho rofusod to let thorn havo.
From this n disputo arose, which re
united in tho shooting of Mr. Collins
by Abda Johnson, with n shot-gun,
about thirty buckshot lodging In his
breast auil stomach, killing him in
stantly. Tho Johnson boys made
their osoapo, notwithstanding tho
prosouco of tho marshals. If Aaron
and Marlin Collins guts after Ilium,
thoy will havo to ‘hide out’ or get
caught. Mr. Miller Collins loaves livo
orphan children, all girls, their mother
having diod several years ago.
A Cure tor Drunkcnur**.
Wo dosiro to draw particular at
tention to u proscription which has
boon printed by tho Scientific Amer
ican, which is said to have proved u
practical aud efliciout remedy for tho
chronic lovo of strong drink. It is
described as follows :
"Thoro is a proscription in uso in
England for tho euro of drunkenness,
by which thousands aro said to Imvo
boon assisted in recovering thomsolvcs
The receiptenmo into notoriety thro*
tho efibrts of John Vino Hull, com
mander of tho Croat Eastern -steam
ship. lie had fallen into such habit
ual drunkenness that his most earnest
cflora to reclaim himsuif proved una
vailing. At length he sought tlio ad
vice of an eminent, physician, who
gave him a proscription, which ho fol
lowed faithfully for seven mouths, and
at the end of that time had lost alt
desire for liquor, although I10 had for
many years boon led captive—which
ho afterwards published, and by which
so many drunkards have been assisted
to reform, as follows: Sulphate of
iron, live grains; peppermint wator,
eleven drachms; spirit of nutmeg, 0110
drachm; twice a day. This prepara
tion nets as u stimulant and tonic,
aud partially supplies the plaeo of tho
accustomed liquor, and prevents that
absolute physical and moral prostra
tion that follows a sudden bioakiug
from the uso of stimulating dtiuks."
Wo can scarcely conceive that the
Scientific American would li vo print
ed this without being satisfied of its
cflleacy. We commend it, therefore,
to the consideration of our physicians
mid druggiuts. There are many men
addicted to strong drink who are
worthy objects of commiseration, but
boyond their own mental and moral
powers for recuperation ami reform.
If there is anything in tho world that
can help them out of tho slough i f
despond in which they find themselves,
is a blessing which ought to bo dis
seminated.
