about 11 o'clock. As ho was crossing
the street north of Mr. Phillips' a,ore,

Dr. Joe Liddell, who is fresh from
college ruado an examination by dis
section.
On dissecting into tho chest, the
pericardium, or sack of tho heart, was
found very much distended. On open
ing it, a pint of blood and over half a
pint t.f water was taken out. Tho
finding of the blood and water in tho
sack enclosing tho heart, was evidence
of a rupture of tho heart. On the re
moval of tho sack, the left auricle was
found ruptured—tho aparturo as largo

evidently the result of un infiainatoi-y

Mr. E<iitor .-—Tho "corn sum” was
not intended ns a puzzle, but I think
"R» W. E." has made ono of it. His
rule will do, but I cannot, by using it,
get his figures. Ho must have made
a mistake in his first, multiplication,
for ho says 14(532 multiplied by (50 ets.
gives $(58,172. For mo it gives $87.-
792, which, divided by 1.150 gives A’s
money in cents, or his amount of corn
in lbs. But why ?
Tho sum, however, was not slated
ns I intended it, but should hnvo read
thus;—A. hauls B. 14028 (I change
the figures to avoid fractions) lbs. c.f
corn at (50 cents per 100 lbs., and is to
lake his p ly out of tho corn at $1 per
bushel, (net 100 lbs ) and is to have
no pay for hauling his part, how many
bushels will A. get? Will "R. W. E.’«
give an arithmetical rule for this ?—
Tins answer to this is (53 bushels, hut
