A considorablo "stir” was created in
our town ou last Friday by tho

boar and man carried off considorablo
quantities of nickles. Tho bear olmrg

ho got it. Judge Sparks, it is said,
followed tho boar to Cnvo Spring, and
ho reported tho man had split tho
boar’s tongue with a knife, but ho was
not behoved.
Our young friond Wm. M. Hatch
the day aftor his mnrriago on Wodues

to a few friends—wo being ono of tho

Ou last ’1 hursduy n caso of iusuni
, Amanda Williamson, colorod, was
i eported to Marshal Gibson, by Mr
D. R. Munroe, when ho proceeded to
arrest and lodgo her in jail.
Mr. Munroo has known this woman
for about fivo yours, and sho lias boon
subject to fils of insanity for that time
generally about onco a 3oar, and last
nig about two weeks ; but fur tho last
year it has been observed that they
increased in frequency nnd st
verity. She had been at Mr. Muir
roo s house for tho lust throo or four
months, and a few days ago has shown
signs of tho return ol these fits, since
which timo sho has boon perfectly
walking up and down tho street,
nnd sometimes threatening to burn
Mr. Munroe's house. Sho seems to
imagine sho has a school mistress, to
whom sho has very hard lessons to n-
Judgo Brower summoned a jury
lay morning to determine whether
it was u case of goiiuino insanity, and
their verdict, aftor houriug tho ovi-
lenco in tho case nnd having tho sub
joct beforo thorn, was th.it she was in
o, and also a pauper. J udge Brow
had her returned to jail, and wo
iresumo sho will be sent to tho asy-
m.
On last Friday Charley Oordon
discovered that an effort was being
mudo ou the part of the prisoners in
jail to make their esenpo. Ilis suspi
cions were aroused three or four days
previous by a continuous stamping on
tho floor, and their seemingly happy
frame of mind. On Thursday night,
betwoon 12 and 1 o’clock, Mr. Gor
don went out and took position under
the window to tho room these prison-
occupied. Ho soon heard ono of
them say, "well, boys, it’s lime we are
at work.” In 11 short timo ho heard
tho work commence—sawing or filing
the iron bars—but continued but a
short timo. Mr. G. remained about
hour, and believing, by their work
stopping, that the prisoners hud dis
covered him, left. Next morning he
went up stairs to examine tho room,
met Nod Lurkiu und asked him
"where is that saw.” Ned seemed to
bo very much astonished at such a
question. Ou examination of the
window ho found their tools, a small
file and case knife. On tho back of the
knife they had made a saw, which
they used iu severing the iron burs.
They had sawed off two round burs,
and ono nearly off’ and one flat
bar off. Nod Larkin then disclosed
the whole plot. Said when they, Nod
Larkin, Rich Pullen and Eli Adams,
were put in tbut room, Meeks told
them they were nearly out—that two
bars were sawed in two, and that the
file and knifo he had ruude a saw of
was under the window sill. He
also disclosed a plot to supply tho
prisoners with a hack saw, by outside
parties. Mr. Gordon will keep u
slurp eye on their movements in fu-
Mnrricil.
