Mu. Editor: li is rumoreJ, and
believed by Homo, and hoped by many,
that Prof. Barber will, with his vocal
(‘lass, com isting of Capt. Kndlow-:,
Major Jes.se Grubb and Col. Tom Dan
iel, give ono of their pleasant enter
tainments on next Friday at tho Sab
bath school celebration. It is thought
the Prof, will assemble bis singing
class around the imxU spread on tho
ground. Many Voters.
To-morrow is tho Sabbath-school
pic nic. Behoving tint many worthy
and every way accomplished young
ladies from dillurcnt parts will bo
present, wo, from an earnest fooling
of friendship for our ancient friend,
W. D. Wright, respectfully ask that a
committee bo appoiulod by tho young
ladies, to bo composed of ton ladies
possessing tho most persuasive powers,
together with seven gentlemen who
can ably present tho just claims of our
friend for matrimony. Tho eommit-
toc should bo uppoiuted immediately
upon assembling, so that thoro will
he no plea fur want of time, in
the event tho committee should fail to
find one who will say Y« h. Wo wish
the committoo buccohb, and that
they may rovivo hope again in tho
now languishing breast of William.
Wo would further suggest that tho
throe gontlemon who will deliver tho
addresses bo added to tho committee,
lest the hai vest pass and tho summer
end and William not married.
Wo regret that our esteemed friend,
('. Philpot, arrived too late on last
Sabbath morning to join tho Subbath
school in tirno to entitle him to tho
first table ut tho pic nic. For once,
Judge Sparks was on time, lie join
ed Judge Barber’s juvenile class. Wo
learn that, since Judge Sparks has
joined the school, tho programme ul-
ludod to by our correspondent “Many
Voters," has been changod, and tho
singing will bo “performed" by him,
Sparks, alone, lie prefers perform
ing alono, that the tones of his mag
nificent voice may not be interrupted
by others. As tho crowd disperses
in tho afternoon, th Judge will re
main on tho ground and ‘ hum’’ a tune,
after tho stylo of an organist in a city
church. He bus been practicing this
tune all week. Tho only fears his
friends have as to the Judge’s success
in all his performances, is that he will
not he able to stand a successful ex
amination in old testament history,
such questions, for instance us to tho
kind of wood used in the construc
tion of Noah’s ark, as tho Judge was
too young at that time to renumber,
and he, like tho most of us, reads but
little in his hi hie.
The People Want Proof.
There is no m< dicine prescribed by
physicians, or sold by Druggists, thut
carries such evidence of its success
and superior virtue as Bosciieeh Ger
man' Syrup for severe Coughs, Colds
settled on the Breast, Consumption,
j or any disease of the Throat and
! Lungs. A proof of that fact is that
any person afflicted, can get a Sample
Buttle for 10 cents and try its superi
or effect before buying tho regular
size at 75 cents. It has lately been
introduced hi this country from Gcr-
j many, and its wonderful cures are as
tonishing every one that use it. Three
j doses will relieve any ease. Try it.

Mn. Editor Tho Collar town Rec
ord is always a vory welcomo visitor
to our isolated valley. It conns
freighted with all that wi could ex
pect from Iho metropolis of an Em
pire. ’Tis comparable to a rich ar
gosy that has circumnavigated tho en
tire globe, plowed the doi p, green
waters of every sea, rodo gallantly in
to every harbor, and cast anchor in
y port, taking in its intellectual
and variously selected cargo from the
Id and sterile regions of Kmnschut-
ka, to tho sun burnt climes of Borneo
>r Sumatra. And from the great vu-
icty and vast scope of tho Record’s
contents, wo arc under tho imprei s'ou
that your reporters are multituaim in
possess the attribute of ubiquity.
Notwithstanding all this, wo find our
selves as utterly ignored ns if wo were
tho denisous of some isolated Scottish
glen, far abovo the Bonny Doom Is
it necessary, my dear sir, that wo get
lip a Beecher scandal, or u Belknap
fraud, or put up a Babcock crooked
still, in order to become eligible to u
more passing notice in our own coun
ty paper? Have the goodness to
send a reporter, that our liienils at a
distance may know something of our
surroundings.
Ho must vie with Dickens in detail,
surpass Bulwnr in delineation, and
equal the Scottish Wizzird of tho
Ninth in imagination; ouo who can
weave tbo warp and woof of a legend
of the times when the beautiful wa
tery of the Euhai lcc burst through
t!iis mountain barrier, “with a tum
ble and a rumble, and a rush aud a
roar, just, us the waters come down ut
L idoro."
The physical feature in our land
scape to which v/d^tohide, is worthy
the peccil of a Reubens, a Reynolds or
a Raphael. After the waters lmvo
taken a leap of ono hundred feet al
most perpendicularly, they meander
almost silently for miles through this
fruitful vally, like a ribbon of sib.er,
wove on a carpet of green, besprinkled
wi h flowers of every line, fur surpass
ing in beauty the products of nil tho
looms of Cashmere or tho Ind.
And there is something iu.tho men
tal calibre and the moral status of tho
southern part of Polk that is worthy
your attention. Intellectually, thoy
aro above average, and morally, thoy
stand iu tho front rank.
They organized a Sabbath-school

which has been kept up nil winter, in

linguists in tho State, so that wo got
tho sacred text in Hebrew, Greek and
Latin. In short, we have all tho ad
vantages of tlm Hub of creation, with
out its blue stocking propousitios, or
its Puritanic pretui sious. Aud tho
modest beauty of its female attend

would ex'duim, iu tho language of
Scott,
“Sure Grecian chisel ne’er did trnoe,
A Nymph, u Naiad or a grace,
Willi so bountiful a form
Or half so fair a faoo.”
Tho formation of tho Subbuth-
