tbo deed wus done in cold blood,
without provooatioo or promeditation.
The oiroumstances an reposted to uh

Johnson was in tbo city day beforo

man, Alfred McCarver, and ordered
him to bring over tbo boat. Fbo ne

Mu. Enrrou:—Liko a good, loyal
Democrat, I attended tho convention
on the CTor-inotnorablo 22d, at Cedar-
town, and was enthused wi.h tho har
mony and unanimity that prevailed
Especially was this tho ease in tho
oloctlon of Dftbuoy delegates to the
Congressional convention. I Do bo-
liovo (here wero one hundred and fifty
Democrats in tbo court bouse wbou
tbo selection Was made, and every
"motbor’s son” of them, except about
ono hundred and forty, voted for theso
dolcgutos. Col. Dabney must hnvo
felt highly complimonted with this
hourly endorsement by the Democracy
of Polk. After tho selection, three
cheers wero proposed for Col. Dab
key, and 1 tell you they were given
with a vim. I was powerful uneasy
for fear that, court houso floor would
give way again. I want you to toll
Judgo Rrowcr to bo sure and have
that floor mado plumb si euro beforo
any more of thorn Dabney cheers are
proposed.
I am going to add a few iroro
planks to my platform:
lbt. I'm in favor of iuercusing tho
number and pay of grand jurors.
There ain’t enough of them to attend
to the business, and the idea of forc
ing these men nwn.v from their homos
a wot-k at a timo iu tho Inuty mouths
of August and February, for the /it/t-
ful sum of two dollars a day, when
they could, may be, make ten cents a
day at home, is preposterous. If
elided I'll favor increasing their uum-
bor and pay, and will also favor a bill
forover prohibiting them from paying
tbo printer any thing for publishing
three or four columns of grand jury
presentments. Theso printers are al
ready getting “fut and sassy” off their
jwy for doing tho county advertising,
nml to pay them in addition thereto
for publishing tin so presentments, is
an outrage, nml if continued, will tend
to Imukrupt tbo treasury.
2d. Pm in favor of Justices of tbo
Pence “holdin on" to all tbo money
they collect. They are a uvrthg class
of our follow-citizens, and oughtn't to
bo .'fum'd out just to burner a few
meu who say they need their money.
33. I'm in favor of having as many
political speeches as possible during
tbo sessions of our superior court.
Tho court, juries, witnesses, oto, ought
to bo paid, and Well paid, too, to sit
in tho court house, with the thermom
otor in tho niuotics, listening to
“buncoiub” political speeches. The
fact is, wo ueid more politicians any
how, and 1 iutoud to have a bill pass
ed to import an additional crop into
tho State, and exempt them from tax
ation. Wo need them to build up
our waste places.
4th. I'm in favor of tho law ex
empting manufaotuies form taxation.

Wo oppose tho recommending of

In concur ring with the former Jury
