Tho Presbyterian Festival, which

On Inst Saturday morning, tho
Chcrokoo Iron Compauy, for tlio first
time, fired up aud started thoir largo
engine, aud after a few revolutions of
tho huge fly-wheel, tho cold nir cham
ber which adjoins tho engine-room,
and on top of which was tho largo
water tank, nearly full of water, gave
way and let tho tank drop to tho
ground, a distanco of about forty foot
Tho cold air room and tank aro a
total wreck. The loss is about $3,-
600. Cnpt West expected to coil-
rnonco tiio manufacture of Iron iu a
few days, but this accideut will cause
a delay of several weoka. Ho has
gone to work in good enrnest to ro-
pair the damngo. He will at present
construct an iron receiver and a wood
en tank, until Bpring as brick work
cannot bo done now, Capt West and
two or three others woro in tho room
that fell not more than a ininuto be
fore tho accidont. Tho accident was
caused by tho breuking of a largo
cust irou washer placed iu tho brick
wall to bold iron stay rods.

on tho subject of music was largely
attended and tbo people woro most

town with amusing jokes on somo of
our citizens, fastened tho attention of
his bearers in which tin to was no re
laxation during his whole lecture. Ho
endeavored to impress upon the peo
ple the importance of a thorough
musical education; and of whai vast
importance it is for churches to have
good singing. Hu gavo many histori
cal facts which were entertaining as
well os instructive, and wo must com
mend his ability to enter bis whole
soul iuto tho spirit of bis difierent
charecters which, with bis full, strong
voice makes a most excellent delivery.

last. It was caused by tho chimney
of Mr. Prebblo’s residence on ohiug
