THE RECORD CEDARTOWN, OA., JAN. 19, 1877. Tlie Public I’urte* Tlio annual report of Troamiror -Uetifroo in chiefly a matter of tabloH, •but thou© ttibloH promul in the cloar- •oat poiuiiblo manner a ileal of infor* ‘tnation that coucorna ovary taxpayer, every citizen, in fact, of tho uttilo.— They prummt every cswintial fact in relation to thu flnaucoa of the ntato, her bonded dobt and her liabililioH Ah utt 6hdoi«olr—nol ou© being over 1 - looked bo far an we can di#5ovor. Bo- fore wo come to the tabtoa, a history iH given of now sovon por cent* bonda to the amount of $512,000, at an ox (muiio of luMi limn Hi* hundred dol lars, including advertising for propos als, printing of bonds, etc. The pre miums realized on tho sale of bonds were nearly flvo tiinos tho expenses of tho ontiro transaction. And thou wo oomo to th« carefully prepared tables which aro as full of facts oh an egg is of moat The rec ognized dobt of tho state amounts to $H,447*500 and tho tables in tho roport show tho yoar wUon tho differ- out portions fall duo-—tho months whon tho interest is to bo paid on oaoh part, and a varioty of othor informa tion eupoeially intorosting to thu hold ers of tho bonds. Only $100,000 of tho principal falls duo this yoar. There uro also bonds outstanding to tho amount of $‘2,088,000, boaring tho endorsement of tlio stato as fol lows: Macon ami Brunswick • $1,060,000 Nor Mi nml Mouth ..... 2-10,000 Moiuphia Uranch 84,000 All throo of those roads lmvo de faulted, and tho first two aro hold aud operated by tho stato. Add tho forgoing amounts to thu bonded debt of tho state, and wo lmvo a grand to tal of $10,071,500, wbioli is probably just about tbo size of tho load that wo must toto to tho days of Anal pay ment. Tho trensuror estimates tho receipts of 1877 at $1,457,000. Thu disbursements for thu same poriod aro $1,167,000. The Comptroller’* llrport. The Lcgialuflire. Tlio Georgia Legislature convened on Wednesday of last week. Hon. Rufus R Lester, of Havannah, was elected president of tho sonnto. A. J Cameron was re-elected Mousongor, and Col. J. B. Cumming ro*electod doorkeeper. Col. Eugene 1*. Hpeor, of Hpaulding, was elected clork. Hon. A. O. Bacon, of Bibb, dcctcd apeak or of tho Houso; B. F. Miller, of Hancock, doorkeeper, J. It. .Smith, of Coffeo, Messenger of the hoUso. An usual, a groat many bills have boon introduced. Two or throo mem bers have introduced bills to roduco tbo per diem of members to fivo dol lars. .Such ,bills are invariably laid on tho tuble—and finally utidor tho tablo. A bill has boon introduced to alter tlio constitution making the sessions bionniol, and tho per diom of mem bers not more than $5, and mileugo ten cents pet mile. Tho usual largo number of bills to altor and amend different sections of tho Code, have boon introduced— about ten per cent of tbo wbolo num ber. Our New York Letter. IIV SAf.UK J. IIATTF.Y. Tbo fourth nunual roport of Comp troller Uoldsmitli is a very interesting document. It is a bird's oyo view of tlio stato's resources. It hIiowh what we have lost and gained in a yoar of fjovoro shrinkage. Thu taxable prop erly of thu yoar was 615,002,2111 loss than in 1K7C, but this deoronso, largo ns it is, is not near so largo ns timt sustained in many other states. Tho dooronno would ,lmvo boon more se verely folt but for tho gainos in furni ture and tools. Of tho 1 jss farming lauds furnished five and a half mil lions; city properly about throo and tUroo-qunrUr millions; money and solvent debts neatly six millions; mor- elmudiso two millions, and bank shares two and a quurtor millions. Aud yot tho taxable property of tho stato is $10,1811,0211 more than it was whon Colonel Goldsmith assumed his pres ent duties. Tho comptroller believes that the returns of many corporations nro far below what they should ho, and h 0 , with netted heading, thoroforo asks the legislature lo aiu * ^ ou 8* “B'aight o amend tho law so that he can roctify Buoh roturus according to tho host in formation ut his command. Ho re- coumiouds a change in the fiscal yoar so as to give all of Doootubor to tho Accurate preparation of tho statistical information douiaudod by the annual r#ports. To avoid confusion and er ror ho roooommonds that tho ontiro poll tax ho paid to tho treasurer, ami that it bo transferred to tho counties whon tho not amounts duo them re spectively aro ascertained. Although lhero was a gain of 634, 744 Hcroa in improved lands, yet that class of proporty shows a docroaso in value amounting to $5,401,233, owing to a loss of twenty-two aud ono- third cents an acre iu average value. The average vuluo of improved laud in Fulton comity is $14.21) an aero, tho lands of uo othor comity attain ing to tou dollars. Tho closing table of tho roport is a What would your roadors in tho beautiful land of flowers and sun- shino say to snow two foot doop on tho level ? 1 wonder how many gird- od about with the splendor of white unbrokon silence, would nay as I do, "TIiobo things aro boautiful in thoir way, but givo mo tho Summer Land." Seal sacqucs aro finished with a border band of o'tor, running with tho felt, which gives a rich fall edge to tl\o fur. Outer garmonts aro boautiful this season. Tho sacquo, dolman, and tho French paletot nro perfect in points of comfort aud elegance. Gut ter garmonts of all stales are much larger in order lo asismulato with tho classic fall of drapery, which is now tho prevailing mode. Little or no looping appoars in tho latest Parisiau toilets. Faded or . “ 1 ** ■ ‘ gray hair is toon restored to its original color, irith the gloss and freshness of youth. Thin hair is thickened, falling hair | checked, and baldness often, though I net always, cured by its use. Noth- j ing can restore the hair where tho j follicles nr destroyed, or the glands atrophied and decayed. But such as I remain can bo saved for usefulness by this application. Instead of foul- ! ing tho hair with a pasty sediment, it will keep it clean and vigorous. Its occasional use will prevent the hair ■ from turning gray or falling off, and consequently prevent baldness. Freo from those deleterious substances i which make some preparations dan- i gerous, and injurious to tho hair, the Vigor can only benefit but not harm it. If wanted merely for a HAIR DRESSING, nothing else can be found so desir- ; able. Containing neither oil nor dye, it does not soil white cambric, i and yet lasts long on the hair, giving : it a rich, glossy lustre and a gratefm I perfume. Prepared by Dr, J. C.
