Mr. Henry C. Brown met with on
accident hist Tuea lay that came very
near being serious. He and Mr. Wil
liams were tearing down an old plank
fence, Mr. Williams using a hatchet,
which flow from tho handle, striking
Mr Brown edge foremost, on the nock
ju.it behind the ear, cutting an uugly
gash.
The concert Wednesday night given
by the Codartown Ethiopian Club
was a perfect success, or, to use tt
slang phrase, “do best ob do season.’ 1
The leys were greeted by a large and
appreciative audience, who they kept
in a perfect roar with their side-spit'-
ting jokes and plays. The end men,
Messrs. Treadaway and England, kept
up their parts splendidly. Singing
was very good especially the song
“Who’s dat Knocking at my Door,"
by Messrs Liddell and Dodds. And
Boater an’ do Babe, what e oi we say
about them, well we'll just—lay down

resulted fatally.

The County Printing.
It will be remembered by most of
our readers that about two yoars ago
a groat ado was made by cortaiu par
ties about tho couuty printing. Prop
ositions wero mado to do tho work
for half prioo, then ouo-third, and
finally bids wero demanded, and tho
Ordinary did let out his work to the
lowest bidder, and wo gavo bond to
do his priuting tho balanco of his
term freo of chargo, and wo carried
out tho contract faithfully. Wo hIbo
published sheriff sales for ono dollar
a lovy, ouo-third tho usual price, and
will still do tho work for one-
third price. Aro tho pooplo willing to
pay threo times what wo proposo to
take? Wo think uot. Wo intend to
publish till legal advertising, whether
we are paid for it or not. Wo havo
become accustomed to work for notli-
iug.
Tho gr tnd jury of tho first week of
court very v. isely, wo think, recom
mended that all tho county officers
let out their printing to tho lowest
bidder. Will they do it ? At e the
people of tho county, the tax payers
and tho poor debtors who havo their
property advertised by tho Sheriff,
willing to pay big prices—ihroo dol
lars a lovy for Sheriff sales, whon wo
havo been doing tho Btmo work for
nearly two years, and propose to con
tiuno to do it, for ono dollar, or loss,
por levy ? Aro they willing to pay
high prices to the Ordinary for the
advertising lie It s douo, when wo
havo douo it for tho past two yours
for nothing, and we havo propo.-od to
contiuue to do his printing freo ol
charge ?
If tho money for their legal adver
tising caiuo out of their own pockets,
and not out (»f tho treasury and the
pockets of their neighbors, wouldn’t
our couuty officers let out their prim
ing to tho lowest bidder, nud get it
done Lv nothing, if tin y could V Yea,
vellly.
Is it not tho duty of a couuty offi
cer tp do tho best bo can for tho peo
ple, his neighbors and friends, and
when lie pays out their money for
work, pay out us little as possible?
Wo think so, and so do lire people
