This is said to be the most extensive works uf the kind in tbo South. The capacity i f the furnace is about thirty tons a day. The out lay liy the Company has been about three hundred thousand dollars, aud we hope the income will he in propor tion. H wo only had the railroad completed our town would begin to look up. We find the following iu tho Rome C'otiriur ol tho 20th ; Mr. Dave Ford, the well known and popular mnrchoiit of this city, last Saturday went up to CaVtorsvillo on some business errand. While I hero ho met with Dr. Felton, representa tive of Ibis district iu Congress. Dr. Felton imparted to Mr. Ford some information which will make tho Ro mans heart to beat fast with pleasure and hope. Dr. Felton says that in n very few days ho expects to get the appropriation of ton thousand dollars for cleaning out tho Etowah, and thirty thousand dollars for tho Coosa. He thinks that work will bn com menced on these rivers within thirty days. He has the assurance of Pres ident Huyes in reference lo this mat- tor. Dr. Felton expects to he in Rome iu I lie course of the next month when he will make us a ‘l iver spocch.’ He 1ms high and strong hopes of gel ling for these rivers much larger amounts than tho above. Certainly if there was overall internal improve ment that tho General Government, should aid in pushing forward this in one. The opening of the Coosu river is infinitely more than a mere help lo Romi—it will he of great and, under some circumstances, might bo of in calculable benefit to tile gonorat gov ernment.
