A Visit to tlic Doomed Mull.
On lust Wednesday, in cmnpany
with the Sheriff, Mr Dougherty, and
two others, we visited Mr. William
Meeks, the doomed mail, in his cell in
tho county jail. Mr. Meeks is a large
lino looking man, ilurk hair, fair com
plexion, and, wo judgo about 33 or
34 years old. Tho cell, or cage rather,
in which he is coufmed is situated iu
Iho ceutro of a largo room, is nbout
ten feet high and twelve fuut squill'u,
and is almost solid iron. When we
enterod tho unfortunate was reclining
on his hod reading the Biblo. Upon
our entering ho closed lii3 book and
said “Mr. Dougherty, my doom is
now sealod, and in a few days I am
foroed to meet my God, upon whom
is now my only hopo. I want to die
in ponce with all mankind, alul I want
you to forgive mo for any injuries I
have ever consed you.” Mr. Dough
erty told him that he had nothing in
the world against him, und was not
his enemy. He then turned to Mr.
May with tears in his oyos, “Mr May,
wo once had a difficulty too, I waut
your forgiveness.” Mr. May said he
freely forgavo him. Mr. Meeks then
said "gentlemen my fate is now seal
ed, I feel that I shall surely bo hang
ed, a false statement would do mo
no good, and in view of that hour
which is so near, when I am eompeled
to meet my God, wherein is my only
hope, I am not guilty of the murder of
McCormick. My only liopo is iu God,
und I believe that I am prepared to
meet him.”
Mr. Meeks seems to feel confident
that he is at peaco with his Maker.
Wo trust he is, and may ho find rest
for his weary soul, on that bright
shore beyond tho Jordon.
In slumbers of midnight our young ladies

| When Cedartown'B jolly little sorenodiog
hand,
| Went marching along, eacn with instru
ment in hand.
' thinking of the cake wine, and sweet
i meats they wore going to get—but ah !
! they were doomed to disappointment.
: The first place they went to, after
; blowing, picking und singing for an
hour or so, they finally awoke thorn,
and a piece of pine came cizziug down
tho steps, nearly upsnttiug two or
three of the baud, and all turned to
run, hut one, more courageous than
the rest, picked up that log of pine
to return the fire, when ho discover-
: ed it note tied to it, on which was the
! following:
; Young Gentlemen:—
We Indies regret very
much not knowing of tiie serenade
early enough to prepare sweet cakes,
sour milk, and corn bread. There
were unions iu the garden, hut it was
late to dig them. The wine in the cel-
i lar no—we mean walnuts, were good,
hut it was loo dark to get them. Wo
hopo you’ll oujoy this film supper.’’
Tho hoys didn’t soom to onjoy il,
though. Tho next liouso they went
t.i,'] iiftur going through pretty much
tho Hiinu role, a light was mudo, but
no pitcher, or little brown jug was
thrust through Iho window glass to
them. Then through tho cedars, over
tho rocks and in the mud, that now
feint hearted crowd toiled on their
weary wnv, hut sure of something nt
the next place, hut when tLioro, oh,
cruel, cruel fate, thoy just carried tho
lump in tiio parlor, and returned to
“tired liuturo’s sweet restorer." And
now those boys Bay next timo they
go serenading—well, next timo—they
just won’t go, that's all.

Hair Vigor,
For restoring Gray Hair to
ils natural Vitality and Color.
A dressing
which is at ones
agreeable,
healthy, and ef
fectual for pre-
serving tho
hair. Faded or
gray hair is loon
restored to ill
- ..... original color,
with the. gloss and freshness of youth.
TIiin hair is thickened, falling hair
cheeked, and baldncHB often, though
! not always, cured by its use. Noth
ing can restore the hair where tho
follicles are destroyed, or tho glands
atrophied and decayed. But such as
remain can be saved for usefulness
by this application. Instead of foul
ing the hair witli a pasty sediment, it
will keep it clean and vigorous. Its
occasional use will prevent the hair
from turning gray or falling off, and
consequently prevent baldness. Free
from those deleterious substances
which make some preparations dan
gerous, and injurious to the hair, the
Vigor can only benefit but not harm
( it. If wanted merely for a
i HAIR DRESSING,
nothing else can he found so desir
able. Containing neither oil nor
dye, it does not soil white cambric,
and yet lasts long on the hair, giving
it a rich, glossy lustre and a grateful
perfume.
