Batt Jones as a candi date for the constitutional convention subject to tho decision of tho voters of llio district on tho day of election. Here and There by our Reporter "There’s a chiel among ye takin’ notes* And faith he'll preut ’em.” Strawberries at Phillips’ Hall Thursday night. Admission 10 cents, children 5. Soo notice of Administrator’s Sale in another column. schools from Rockuiart and Antioch Jim Glenn is all tho time wanting to take n ramble. Poolr, got another! What kind? Good one. Well- just catch ’em all. If you want good pictures, cheap, call on Mr. Green, at tho court house. A nice piece of buffalo moat was sent to Mr. Philpot last week from Texas. Girls, don’t ho afraid to work.— Ruth gleaned in the field and got just as good ti Bo-uz anybody. Some think, in the event tho war iu Europe continues, cotton, next fall, will not sell at any price. Tho Chorokeo Iron Company will receivo more new goods next week. Cull und hoo them. Tho steam road wagon is now mak- iug regular trips from tho funmeo to the ore bank. It is a success. Something terrible is going to hap pen. Dr, Joe Liddell lias bought a great big g.dd ring. Oh, that beautiful sweet-scented gourd bios—wo mean honey suckle— and oh, do lot's take a ramble. Henry King, the “phatest man out” wanted to make love last Monday, but the young lady wouldn’t "tuke a ram ble” out to the verandah ’cause yotrr chiel was there. The Cherokee Iron Co., are con stantly making additions to their stock of goods. Cash buyers will find it to their advantage to exam ine beforo purchasing elsowlioro. We would advise Charley Hooper to tako a lantern next, then he wont have to ask for water to wash his hands with when ho gets in the par lor. The Ladies’ Benevolent Society of tho Presbyterian church will give a strawberry festival ai Phillips’ Hall on next Thursday night. Go and carry your girl nlong. Henry King says bo wants to bo in another concert, but ho don’t want no more Dutch weddings, be wants a real wedding, “hi golly I want a pard- ner. Ain’t I right.” The boys haven't decided who the belle of the moon-light pic-uic was yet. If they don’t decide by next Friday, your Chiel will tell. Wo know, but we feel a delicacy in articulating. Now ye that have Jull razors, and don’t love to shave can rejoice, Joe j the Barber is in our midst, and is lo- j cated at Vann’s palace confectionery ! store. We know Joe, he is a cleaver darkey, and a polite and obliging bar ber. Has the late heavy advance in all kinds of provisions, br end stuffs, etc., caused the farmers to stop and think ? If it takes about four pounds of cot ton to pay for one pound of bacon next Spring, they will be apt to stop and think then. Better reflect now, gentlemen. are invited, and we think, have uc- j oepted and will bo them. We had the pleasure of eating din-1 uer at the Allen House last Monday. And just such a dinner, oh, mi. You see, we had oyster soup to commence with, turkey, veg—but its no use to umko you hungry telling you about it, hut wo would advise tho traveling public, when they visit Cedartowii, to always inqniro for tho Alien Houso whore they will always find a hearty welcome and everything olso pertain ing to a first class hotel. Go to tho festival next Thursday night. Bright-eyed beauties will ho there. Wo take off our hat and got right square dowu ou our knees to Mr. Boh Vann, for a pitcher of tho most delicious lager. Mr. Vann is just two | doors from Huntington’s where ho i keeps the most choice confectioneries, I cigars, pipes, tobacco, ale and porter, and fresh lager always on draught. Remember this is no place for loafers or drunkards, hut a neat, first-class, pleasant resort. And now Mr. Vann, we fill our glasses, and in the lan guage of Rip Van Winkle, "hero's to you, und your families, und may you live long und brosper,” Churrli Notice. May 10, 1877. Tho Sacrament of the L e I’m Sup per will be celebrated at tho Pres >y- terian church next Sabbath. A cor dial invitation is extended to all whose church rules and faith will allow, to participate. We nre authorized to say that our Methodist brethren will unite with us, and that at II o'clock, on that day, there will ho no services in their church. Suasion. Mr. Tom Herbert, of South Carolina, and Mr. R. G. Herbert, of this place, went fishing, and tho Rev. Mr. Her bert, caught a fish, and when pulling it to tho hunk the lino slipped off the pole and the fish got away. After awhile Mr. R. G. Herbert, feeling something against his lino, pulled up, and found that ho had caught tho Rev. Mr. Halbert's lino with tho fish still on it. Now who caught that fish, and whoso was it ?
