Bo \nd ok Edccati >n.—This body met
on Monday last, and fixed the time and
p ( r diem of the Comity School Commia
sioner for the present year.
We ea’l special attention to the notice
of the Bible Society, on Sunday, 30th
inst., and hope to see a crowded house
and plenty of money. It is a good
cause.
Rockdale county has more candidates
and less treating, than any county we
know of. Office seekers should be lib
eral men, and onee in a while when they
see a man thirsty, they should give him
a drink.
See the notice of the Atlanta Con

Personal.
Dr. J. 11. White, formeiJy of Florida,
hut more recently of Atlanta, is on a
visit to Conyers with some thought of
locating here. The Doctor is a son-in
law of our townsman, &Ir. D. S. Butler.
We hope he will like the place and con
clude to settle here, for Conyers is large
enough to give us all a home.
Sael -Accident,
We regret to learn that little Katie
daughter of Dr. 11. 11. McDonald, re
ceived a serious injury by falling and
sticking a knite in her face, just above
the left eye, on Wednesday morning, of
last tveek. We hope she may soon
cover.
Conyers, not to be outdone by Cov
in'- ton, had a regular knock down and
frag out fight, last week, between two
< f nor leading young men. They foul
ind they fir, they gouged and they bit.

* New School.
. The people at and around the Pap'er
Mill have erected anew building which
is used for a school house. Miss Queen
Overhay has charge of the little ones,
ena has a fine prospect for a full school.
The house is also used for Church and
Sunday school purposes. Bev. J. L.
Stew-art, of 1 his place organized a Sun
day school there last Sabbath, with Mr.
John M. Harwell, as Superintendent.
We wish the netv institution in all its
phases prosperity, and a career of hon

Courts.
Rockdale County Court, for its April
session, convened on las* Monday, Ilia
Honor, G. W. Judge presiding,
and T. J. Christian, Esq., County Solic
itor. Seveial cases were disposed of
either by pleas of guilty, or trial before
the Court without a jury. Judgment of
the Court was generally either guilty or
not guilty, but most guilty, with the
usual fine ot twenty-five dollars and costs,
or three months- in chain gang. De
lendants in two eases demanded juries:
Lewis Zuchry, p. o. e„ for disturbing
Divine Worship, and Henry Strickland,
po. e., for assault and battery. After
argument had, (so vailed), the parlies
were found not guilty, and ought to have
been recommended “not to have done so
any mole. 1 ’
Court adjottVned to the eight of May
Crops, &c.
We notice in our travel to and from
McDonough, bst Week, that the wheat
and oat crops were fine. In fact, wheat
is as good as is ever seen for the
time of year in this section. If
nothing happens to blight the, hopes
of our hard working farmers, middle
Georgia, if this portion ot State is any
indication of how the crop will be in
other localities, will almost be self-sus
tahiing. The farmers along said line aie
working manfully, and seem to be fur
ther along for ihe time than in seveial
years back. If the seasons are propi
tious, and farmers continue on as ihey
have begun, the harvest will be plenti
ful.
“Sow that you may reap,—
Work, and faint not—
Labor, and wait,”
and your reward will come bye and bye.
A trip to McDonough, especially with
a genial companion, is one of the best
things out.
Henry Superior Court.
The Apiil Term of ITt-nry Superior

15. Cabiniss, Solid or General. Besides
the local bar, consisting of Judge Geo.
Nolan, C<d. G. W. Bryant and T. C.
Nolan, the Hampton attorneys were on
hand, to-wit: Cols. Hart, Keagan,
Nelms and Reid; Judge Floyd, Coving
ton; a couple from Conyers, with a fall
delegation from Jonesboro and Griffin.
Several cases were tried ; an impor
tant one against the Central Railroad,
with a verdict for nlaintifl for $3,500 ;
another one, originating in Hampton,
being the case of Turnipseed, et al, vs
P. E. Brown, Deputy Sheriff, and Ex of
ficio High Bailiff of Bear Creek; ver
dict for the defendant. Other matters
were disposed of, ot minor interest to
the people at large, that we think best
to leave out of this report;
The guests of .All's. Burner (who) by

Agricultural news is of very little in

consequently, we have not wanted to
force ourselves into the public* prints;

Wheat and oats looking fine, and a
large area ot both crops sown; early
corn, abotlt throe-fourths of a. ,stand,
and looks fine, and largo crop planted ;
cotton planting about over, and the crop
equal to lasi year ; in fact, it is but jus

effort in sll crops, except cotton, than we
have ever done before. We have used
more manure, and bought less of it.
We have used about, 200 tons of ma

have,# ived ten per cent, on the aggrev

We think reached the lowest price for the sea

the first of the month there has been a slight
improvement in all gyad'S ef cotton. We think
parties holding cotton Will do well to sell du

have cause to regret it. When the acres to bo
