Prof. T. B Bailey, President,has inau-
S urate 1 a set ot weekly examinations hi
le Couyejs Female College. On last
Friday atternoon, we had the pleasure,
for the first time, to be on hand and
witness one ot them Several patrons,
as well as other spectators, weie also
present.
Piotessor B. examined a cla-s in Nat
ural Philosophy that stood a good ex
amination.
Pruti si .or Guinn carried his class m
Geometry through a sitting and thor
ough course in that branch ot mathe
matics. The you.ig ladies answered the
questions asked, promptly and pointedly.
They also demonstrated several theorems
and tlie best feature of the demonstra
tions were that the young ladies used
the initials ot their sweethearts’ name to
describe the angels. We imagine it
wouid be very hard to get the angles
i equal to each other, when lettered in
that way ; but, some how or ot her the
square described on the hyputhenuse ot
| the right-angled tri-angle D. O. L. was
i equivalent to tlie sum oi the squares
desc ibed on the other two sides. The
1 angles D. C. L. and R. L. C. were and
are equal to each other.
Miss Morels classes in French and
dictation were then examined and passed
a ciediiable review.
The exercises wound up with some
funny and witty little speeches by the
little hoys and girls.
Professor B. is an excellent disciplina*’
ian, as well as a splendid instructor;
and the advancement his pupils are ma-j

There’s a curse within that glues, brother—
Dash it down !
Or 'twill sink your soul tit last, brother—
Dash it down 1
Oh 1 the pain, tho awful soriovv,
That attends the vice of drink ;J
Yi t you say you’ll guit to-morrow,
While to-day you’r on Hell's briuk.
Perhaps you ’ UVo a mother, dear,
Or perchance a 10/oly wife,
Whooo happiness you’vo blighted near,
By your thoughtless, reckless life.
Dash away the wine-cup, brother.
For to drink it is a siu.
Look to Christ, the open-door,
Seeking right to enter in.
Think, my brother, just behold
How daik a road you’r traveling ou.
Your mother’s heart you've broke with iaro
You've planted in your wi Vb a thorn.
Dash away the wine-cup, brother,
Ere forever ’ti? too late;
Think, to-morrow’s far in future,
But death— present —is your fate.
If to the wine-cup’s fascination
You’ll hoed fast, nor turn away,
Death’s yoitr sure destination —
Not to-morrow, but to-day.
