Tlio Committee Appointed
hy tl»e Governor.
A committee appointed by Gov. J.M. 8mith,
to see if the Northeastern Railroad Management
had complied with the law, preparatory to
extending State aid, consisting of Col. John A.
Grant, Col. Charles B. Wallace, and Major
Bower* arrived in our city Saturday morning
laat, and immediately commenced the discharge
of their commission in the preparation of an
elaborate and statistical report of the condition
of the Northeast Railroad.
Col. John A. Grant has been connected with
the Macon & Brunswick Railroad for the past
several years, well known as the efficient Chief
Engineer of the Atlanta Water Work* and was
connected with Major Campbell Wallace, on
the Gcotgia Western Railroad.
Col. Charles B. Wallace, is a gentleman of
large railroad experience, and will be remem
bered as the young gentleman who came into
our midst as the youngest Superintendent and
Engineer of a railroad during the war. By his
ability and eneigy, he has successively worked
himself into the position of Superintendent of
the Memphis & Charleston, 310, Alabama Cen
tral, and Montgomery & Eufaula railroads, and
then retired to private life. His ability is un
questioned, and he has been formerly honored
by the Governor with similar commissions to
quarters all his old friends, and give them Statc4 ‘
prices on furniture in direct competition with
tho beat markets. Don’t fail to call at the fur
niture wareroom on Broad street.

Scarcity of Money.—There is no

kinds of business and industry is fear
fully depressed, and it behooves eve

Consumption, with other throat and
