broideries are very fashionable.
The new colors are called “ moon-
light blue’’ and “ sorrel green ”
Black satin slippers with silvered
heels are the novelty lor house wear.
Tufts of marabout feathers fasten
the fronts of handsome dresses.
“ Montagues,” or love-locks ou the
forehead are as fashionable as ever.
Poppy red Indiennes, covered
with Persian patterns, are worn at
European seaside resorts.
This promises to be a good season
for toe-martyrs at Saratoga, there
being no less than three corn doctors
there.
Short skirts are fashionably worn
for walking and traveling dresses,
and, indeed, are used for all but “full
vlress” toilets.

It is fashionable for ladies to wear
the watch hanging with a chan at the
waist. The fan is also hung dangling,
in the same way.
Girdles made of heavy silk cable
cord are worn as “ fan chains,” and
many of them have an attachment for
■•upppjting dress-skirts also.
Becoming scarfs for summer wear
are made of white crepe lisse, bor
dered with black lace. Chine rib
bons, in floral designs, are used for
bows on white toilets.
Panama hats are trimmed with a
Scarf of white bunting and deep red
roses for seaside-wear. Deep cuffs of
lace or linen are worn over the dreRs
sleeve.
Narrow bands of black velvet rib
bon are now w«rn about the hair in
Grecian alyle, and a small gold or
jeweled ornament worn at tbe fore
head, is coming in vogue.
Turkish blue, which is a purple and
red, is the popular color for summer
umbrellas for ladies. A white silk
umbrella, with rough oaken handle,
in the eud of which is a watch cov
ered with a very thick crystal, is an
exptwsive novelty in that line.
Among the new appendages of the
.French toilettes, the Ceintre Hetman
may be mentioned os rather unique
aud pretty; but as it possesses pe
culiar facilities for abuse, it will prob
ably not remain -.long as the beau
tnonde. It differs from ordinary belts
by not directly encircling the waist
but it is adjusted to the pointed bodi
ces now so much in vogue.
