Mr. Editor:
In a conversation some ti'mc since
with a friend, on the price Of cotton,
I mentioned to him my viefvs of the
offcct of so many goods and provis
ions being bought on credit, upon
the price of cotton, and gave it as
my opinion, that wc never could get
a remunerating price for our staple,
as long as we continued to get paid
for it before it was made, and that I
intended writing a few articles for
your paper, in order to get the farm
ers to thinking upon, the subject.
Tho question J propounded to Pub
lius, was intended only as an intro
duction to the scries of articles, I in
tended writing, and any man with
half sense, could have discovered the
object I was aiming at, for it was so j
plain, that a wayfaring man, though
a fool, could not have lnisur.derstocd
me; I shall take no further notice of
their otfension, as I have a perfect
c&'nteinpt for those who have not
selfde bnoiigh to understand what
they read, and when pretending a !
reply to my writings, made an at-1
tack only on mo, and are too das-1
tardly to affix their proper signatures. !
