FRIDAY lVf<>UN(Nn, OCl'O'ftlClt Mil, IK7t|.
Tho Funeral Sermon of Hampton
Slovens Sr., deceased, will bo preach
ed iii iiitpna Vista, the sth Sunday in
October by Rev. W. W. Htmvnn, of
Tolbotton." All are invited to at
tetidi
Eiiiiata.
In Mr. 0. W. C. M.’s Card, publish
ed lost week, appeal* two typograph
ical errors; for offeefc read affect; for
oftuslons read offensive.
Rev. M. Hair has moved from Ids
old stand to tie store formerly occu -
pied by Harvey & Story.
—Not any ico-water, I thank you
—this sort of weather.
-—We call special attention to the
Very interesting essay of Dr. H. C.
Spinks, on the subject of oats, which
we)publllh on our first page. It takes
Up the entire page, but its import
ance makes every line of it valuable.
We are glad] that Dr. Spink elabo
rated tm the subject. There is noth
ing thin In it, the “explanation” to
the contrary notwithstanding. Read
it and heed its sugguestions.
—We were pleased to moot in our
sanctum, this week our former town
man, Rev. A. J. Harvey. Jlr. Har
vey is a young man of talent, and
Wo wish him success whcievei lie
may go.
—Oar friends will please remem
ber lliat wc arc compelled to run ihe
Argus on cask principles, and they
will confer a great favor upon us by
payingjtheir subsbriptions promptly-
We hate to talk money so often, but
our necessities compel its to do so
against our inclination. Wo are
forced to pay m advance for paper,
bud meet promptly otir monthly ob
ligations, we therefore must have
money. When you attend Court
next week bring us that two dollars.
—One school boy cut another with
a pocket-knife on Wednesday last, in
Buena Vista. This is the first step to
the ga'lows . boys, stop before you
take another in that frightful direc
tion.
—Mr. Easoti still has Control ot
that excellent hotel, the Trench
House. If any body knows how to
run a hotel, Mr. Eason does. When
you go to Ann ribus do not forget to
stop at the French Iloasc. Fare
good, rates moderate, bid room ac
commodations excellent.
—We are very g’ad to learn that
our young friend and former county
man has connected himself with the
great grocery house of A. Hirsch, in
Anicricus, where he will be pleased
to serve his old friends and custo
mers. He is an energetic young
man and deserves success.
A law will probably be passed by
the next Legislature, abolishing coun
ty towus, stove pipe hats, cigars and
store bought clothes.
The many friends of Mr. Wiley
Jones will be glad to know that he
lias connected himself with Mr.
Louis Cohen’s Dry Goods House.
Mr. Jones has many friends in this
county who will patronize him.
—-It will be seen by reference to our
eolumn of announcements that Mr, W.
M, Williams lias been biougbt forward
by hie friends for the position of Tax
Collector of Marion Connty.
—r-We have been told by a welhin
ioimed gentleman, that there are three
white Radicals in the eastern portion
Marion county. We hope he is mis
taken. He has given us the names and
■we will see bow they vote in tbe appro
aching election.
—Mr. Mitson Melton lias stopped
taking the Argus. Sorry for it—but
as lit can’t be helped, Alf. Colquitt
an£ Howell Hollis must stir around
aiyi get us one new subscriber each
to stake up the deficiency. Can’t
think we'll lose anything in money or
principle by sticking to the Demo
cratic party and Democratic nomi
nees.
=—A fellow signing himself, “Vo

On Monday last, Mr. David .fames
showed us thirty-five acres of upland,
(some of it very old) planted in corn
this year, from whifeh he gathered a
few days ago,- seven hundred bushels.
This is what some of Marion’s poor
pine land can do* when it triesi

Public and Ex-officio J. I*., Mr. W.

Dr. W. P. Burt, of Amcricus, the
popular dentist, will be in Buena

in his profession, and fur the pur
pose of collecting What is due him
for work already done. A long ex
perience has made him proficient in
his calling, and all Work given him
will be saiisfactorily executed.
Superior Court Next Week
The Full Term of Marion Superior
Court convenes in Buena Vista next
week, “and don’t you forget it.’’
Court officers, lawyers, jurors, liti
gants, &c., Ac., should be on hand,
as well as (he nimble and variegated
newspaper drummer, whose paper is
the only one worth taking, within the
whole circumference cf newspaper
dom. And thou delinquent subscri

for past dues and pay Up for a year
in advance; and tbe editor and bis

It will be seen by reference to our
advertising columns, that Messrs.
McMichael and Stevens have remov
ed from their old stand to tho store
house formerly occupied by Rev. M.
Hair. This firm is an active, go-a
head institution, ever on the alert in
the interest ol their customers, and
never CaUglit napping with old or
high priced goods. Trade with them
and you won’t regret it.

Messrs. Granbcrry ami Barlow.
This enterprising, liberal Americus
firm extents a cordial invitation to
our readers to trade at their exten
sive dry-goods house, in the form of
an attractive advertisement. They
offer cheap for cash a splendid stock
of goods. They are honest, open,
straight-forward men, having but one
price for their goods and selling ns
low as any house. We recommend
them because we know them,
—lion, Henry It. Harris, the Dem
ocratic nominee for Congress, speaks
in Buena Vista outlie 19th inst,Thurs
day next. Let every Democrat and
Republican, every white man and
colored man in the county come out
to hear him. He bears the noble
st andard of Democracy and has stood
by our people like a true patriot, in
the halls of Congress. He will never
desert bis people or his party.
—Messrs. N. G. and J. K. Prince,
the livo stable men, of Americus,
still at their old stand, running their
first-class stables successfully mkTsat
isfactorily to all parties. They are
as thoroughly cquiped for the bus
iness, as any establishment of the
kind in Southern Georgia. Wo were
pleased to meet Mr. J. K. Prince,
who has moved from Dawson.
Retrenchment is a green persimmon
which the merchants of a certain city,
are chewing industriously to contract
their stomachs to the dimensions of
their provisions. It would be much

around livelier and get more provis
ions.
