M jors with one or two brothers, a negro
boy and the deceased, were at the gin
of Mr. David Majors, where Speck and
Aaron got in a dispute illative to the
pants. It seems that the negro wore
the pautson the Sunday before,contrary
to the contract, and when Speck de

them, and the negro called Mr. Majors
“a d—d liar.” Blows was resorted to,
and the negro picked up a mattock, and
rushed towards Majors, when he
(the negro) was either tripped, by ot e

rind in falling struck Majors on tbe
shoulder or arm with tho handle of the
mattock. The opposite end being so
much heavier, it fell from the negro’s
hand, and Majors picked it up, and as
the negro rose and rushed towards him
he struck the negro centcrly in tho fore
head, with the axe end of the mattock,
scattering his brains on the ground in
every direction.
We have boon unable to learn whether
or not Mr. Majors has been arrested.

Presentments of flu* Grand Jury
for Use October To?u of M&-
t-loa Superior Court,
Grand Jury Room, October Term, 1
October 17 th, 1877. J
G eorqi a—Marion County.
We. tho Grand Jury, impaneled
and sworn in and for the October
term of Marion Superior Court iu
1877, beg leave to make thefolowing
general presentments :
ROADS.
The roads and bridges throughout
the comity we find in good condi
tion aud the people inclined to still
further improvement of our public
highways.
BOOKS OF OFFICERS.
AVe have examined the books of
tho Ordinary, Treasurer aud Clerk
oi the Supoiior Court ami Tax Re
ceiver, aiul are gratified to report
them kept so legibly neat and plainly
correct. Tiic books of each of t hose
officers reflect credit upon the head
and t astes of each officer.
The books of the Justices of the
Peace have been kept as tho law di
rects, showing evidences, iu some
cases, of improvement.
The books of tho Sheriff have
given us satisfaction, showing energy
and faithfulness upon the part ul
that important officer.
PUBLIC BUILDINGS.
Wo have, through oar committee,
examined tho public buildings. It
appears that the Grand Jury, at the
spring session, appointed a com
mittee to examine the jail and report
to the Ordinary the result of their
examination, with a recommendation
as to tho repairs necessary to be
done, and that the Ordinary was re
quested to act upon that recommen
ds ion. This committee, wo are in
formed, never made any report to
the Ordinary, as required by the
Jury. We therefore request that
the Grand. Jury, at its next spring
| session, authorize the Ordinary to
1 levy a tax sufficient to build anew
jail, to paint the Court House, and
make such other repairs upon it as
he rnav think necessary. -
We think it not advisable to repair
tho old jail, and as it is too Into to
i assess a tax to build a now one wc
; think the above suggestions to our
i next body is the best wo can do.
Wo are greatly pleased to find our
couuty in u good condition and out
of debt, and, from the Tronstncrs re
port, a copy of which is hereunto at
tached,- ami marked “A," lias, lor all
pm poses, tho sum of SGU,22 on
hand.
We regret Iho circumstances liavo
been such that we could not devote
more time to tho investigation of tho
interest committed to us, but hope
gojd will result from our hasty do
ll hot atoms.
In taking have ol his honor. M. J.

We would, too, express our appro

If vou don’t want to advertise that you “will not pay a note given
for a calendar clock because it don’t come up to the warrantee,” (ev ii
if you have given the note for twice the wcrtli of tho clock) go to
Americus, Georgia,
and "et a reliable first-class calender clock at a reasonable price. A
clock that can only he "■warranted for six months ” must be a finc(?)
one certainly ! No respectable resident dealer would sacrifice ids rep
utation by selling clocks he could only guarantee for 6 months. lie
member that when you trade with a responsible resident dealer, and
there is any trouble with the goods, you know where to go for redress.
How is it with an unknown peddler ? Are you prepared to believe an

Wlmt are you going to do with your clock when It stops, wait for the
peddler to come and fix it? It would bo well for our country friends
o think twice before putting their names to notes for an artie’e, o
which they must of necessity" know nothing of the quality, but depend
on the character of the person they purchase from.
Some peddler (i presume) has started the report that several Calender clocks
that i liavo sold failed to perform and have been returned to me. I pronounce ah
ucli m wtß to be utterly fake in every particular, I have never had one returnee
from any cause. From tho fact that I sell Calender clocks that never fail, toi
lens than half the price that some pedlers charge for clocks that do fail, they wan
to make the people believe that my clocks are no better than thoir’s.
