The saddest wedding which wo have
ever chronicled is ol Dr. I>. 11, How

Miss Ida Cocke, of Stone Mountain.
The ceremony was performed at the
residence of tho bride’s uncle, Mr. John
Fain, near that place at twelve o’clock
on Tuesday last. Mrs, Cocke, tho
mother of Miss Ida, had Leen very il!
for some time past, and as her recovery
seemed impossible it was the dcsiio of
all concerned that the marriage should
take place before her death. Dr. How

city on tho morning train ami reached
Mr. Fain’s hotiso about ten o'clock and

**" A coummcation to the tho Atlau
ta Constitution, dated last Sunday,
says: “Below I send you some furth
er particulars ol the strange freak of
lightening at tho Alabama and Geor
gia Mills, near this place, on last
Saturday evening, by which Mr.
William Carpenter lost his life during
a terrible thumbr storm. A cur
rent of cletricity struck tho roof of
the factory building. Going through
to the top floor, it ran backward and
forward on this floor two or three
times, doing no damage, but leaving
a scorched track behind it. From
this room it leaped to the room in
which the operatives were at work,
leaping from one loom to another,
paralyzing and burning several of the
operatives and set one loom on fire.
There was one little girl who had all
the hair burned from her head, but,
was burnt in no other way. From this
room it leaped up to the engine room,
where Mr. William Carpenter was at
work, striking and killing him al
most instantly. There was a boy in
the room with him at the time, who
was badly burned, but is still alive,
and tho doctors think may recover.
It then disappeared and did no fur
ther damage. Just before the above
happened, a little son of Mr. Lang,
the superintendent, was standing by
a largo piece ol timber ou which a
carpenter was at work, when the
lightening struck the timber, running
from one end to the other, paralyz
ing the carpenter on one side but
leaving the boy uninjured. Young
Lang says he saw the lightening,
and says it looked liko a big ball of

Messrs. N. G. & J. K. Prince, of

\vagon3 that was over brought to the
city. It is the lighest running ve
hicle that we ever saw, and will near
ly run off if you take a hard look at
the female equestrian on the seat. —
It is lor six seats, or can be made to
accommodate t,wo, with as large an
amount of baggage as any one would
wish to carry. It is from the famous
A, B. Landis factory, Mt. Joy, Penn.,
and is proof positive that none but
good workmen are employed there.
Picnicers, or pleasure seekers, will
find this the best wagon in the city
and then the beauty of the thing—a
young fellow with his swoetheait
would think he was in heaven with
an angel. The Prince Brothers have a
large lot of new buggies just in from
the same manufactory, and persons
waiting such a tiling would find it to
their advuntuge to examine their
stock.
