Wo extract the following from the Hamilton Jouimjal : On Monday night las, just a lit tle after supper time, Mr. Hen Kimbrough, while passing near the jail, heard a noise like the drawing of a holt but thought it tho jailor giving the prisoner's their supper. But to his surprise lie saw—the moon was shining brightly—several tnon descending thesteps nn the outside of the jail. He at once commanded them to halt, nml no sooner than spoken, they flew in every diiection of the jnilynrd, ami two s necudtd in get ting over the fence that surrounds the jail, which is about sixteen feet high and making good their escape, Mr. Kimbrough used ev ery endeavor to Mop them within the yard, l>y calling for assistance and by throwing rocks at them while on the fence. Ilesuccedcd, lie thinks, in striking one of them upon the hand and probably break ing the fingers. Otto lie struck the head ami knocked off the high fence upon the insido of the •aid. About this tiino several ol l^o citizens came to Mr. K's assis tance and found tbe remaining prisoner bid under the steps. There were otdy throe prisoners confined in the jail, all colored, and had been sentenced at tbe last term of the Superior Court, to the chain gang and penitentiary.
