To ihla end, village* of limited pep* elation and trade, have found it nceettorv to Make apodal effort to Mcureauch an institu tion. In aome coses this baa been attempted bj the mutual oonseut and agreement of all merchants and dealers, that the entire drtig- trudb shall be uudor the oonduot and control of the village apothecary. Often however, such agreements lapse, and the effort proves abortive, so that upon the whole, no sure plan has beeu found ID succeed until the town in its corporate capacity, imposes a tax upon the sale of all drugs and medeclnts, sufficient to throw protection over the bad* ness, and thus secure the end sought. 1 presume there are few persons, not even •U * ‘Ex-Judge," Who need a» extended argu- ment upon the importance of this subject, The writer, will however, in conclusion offer a few thoughts to the publio- generally and the citizens of Butler, and , Town Council especially In the first place the drug business inclu des a numerous class of officinal preparations, which though of rare and occasional use, yet, are articles of prime necessity, so much so that under the exegendes which demand their immediate vse, not to be able to command them, would oiten be felt as o calamity. Drugs of tuts doss are never handled or sold by the general dealer, for seveaal reasons. In the first plooe because they evaporate and deterioate rapidly, and being of only occa- ifonal uee, it would uct pay to do so. Sec ondly they are of a class that cannot be law fully handled, bought, sold and administered exoept by an expert, that is, a person profes sionally educated and licensed for the busi- What has fatnr done by Energy and Peneterance. Mr. Ulitor: I noticed In your column*!, PBIME EMPLOYMENT EOB A TEAS, Less Than 4 Cents a Week. Now if these drags ore necessary to the well being and safety of the communnity, and the ordinary dealer will not nor cannot furnish them, then the question for c village and villager, is. Cun their village apothecary, lean for a support upon these rare and occasional articles which yield little or no profit? leaving the general dealer to monopolize the (rude in the common-place, every-day, family-medicines. If he lives here, we know not Lis name. Wu have never seen a better peach pros pect than there now is in Talbot county. The trees are all fall, and some of the oarliest va rieties are ripening. In fact the entire fruit prospect is good. If you were to say on the streets of Talbot- ion that yon thought the world would come to an end on Fridtv next at noon, you would surely find some perrons who would regulate their time by yours that they might be ap prised of the exact time Gubriel would sound his trump. Bcports of the wheat prospeot continue fa vorable. Wa heard a gentleman say yester- tnrdav tha*. on a trip through to Columbus he saw omy one field of wheat that was not good. Early wheat Is ripe and is better than that which is late, yet it is all well filled nut A bet ter crop bun not been made in Talbot in many years. Muscogee county presents a splendid array " of candidates for the Constitutional Conven tion. Bo fur oh kunwa the list consists of Messrs. 1L A. Thornton, W. A. Bltndford, J s. Few coun ties can preseut so good an array of talent none a better. Mr J. H. Martin, one of the clevereit young men ot this county, left a few days ago for Texas, to visit relatives in that State and to look for a ploca in which to settle. Besides being a rising lawyer of tnuoh ability and good practice, Mr. Marlin is junior member ot the firm of Marlin A Bn., hardware mer- chuuts, and proprietors of the Talbotton liv ery stable and haok-line. bhould ha deter mine to settle ia Texas, we heartily commend him as worthy of every confidence. The horse being then free, and much frightened, ran away, throwing ont the other two oocnpants almost immediately. The runaway oocured at the place of Maj. G. W. Maxson, on the Geneva road. The horse was stopped aftet having badly damaged the boggy. Thp. three gentlemen were freely, though we hope.uojt badly, braised Mr. H. In the face, Mr. A?T. He being my fellow neighbor, slur my bother soldier, I can consdeotirnsly and unavoidably witness and affirm the statement heretifore mention ed. w ben the civil and cruel war oame to a dose, Mr. E. titewort being a survivor, was permitted in and through the kindness of a great Jehovub, to return to his home to hla wife and little ones. On his arrival home, it was manifest and plain that he possessed not a dollar nor a bushel of oorn. His future ca reer at that time must have been a continual scene of darkness. Ho sojourned through life os best he could, when at length he pur chased of Jonathan Otewart, a grist and saw mill with this eleven hundred acres of pine woods land, all of which he gave ($4000.00) four thousand dollars. Purchased money wus paid in accordance of the promissory payment, which was three years henoe from the confirmation of said purchase nr trade. Mr. E. Stewart is now in possession of as good a set of mills as can be found in south western Georgia. He has one runner by whioh he can mash one bushel of corn in the time of every five minutes. He has a flour mill that eon not be excelled in the State in which he lives. His flour miller, Mr. A. J. Hobbs; and Mr. E. Stewart, hAve frequently told me that they often turned off eleven to twelve hunured bushels wheat to e*ch month. In addition to this machinery mentioned, he has a cotton gin that cannot be excelled as to sample or speed, It is conducted bj the gfeat tromdmpsion power the wire cord, with a fifty saw gin. He can gin*elght to ren bales 01 ootton per day. He has a ootton press erected by which four hands can press twen ty bales weighing 600 pouuds each. Mr. Btewnrt is nt tin* time managing the best farm on the stream where he redoes, he makes ten bates of cotton to enoh mule, corn, peas and potatoes, sufficient for home consumption. He has oa h*nd at present a bank of rnlver- ized wheat straw that has as many Irish po tatoes as coula well be in the designated snot orptyce. He is amply fitted with farming impliments generally.
