Brown, a physician ahd highly Esteemed citizen of Columbus, Texas, si Aris Brown, of Davidson county, Tennessee, and n graduate of Nashville Medical College, was shot aud killed tit Houston last night by fa desperate character named Grissom, Dr. Drown wu> visiting tie .State fair, and while at supper at his hutch Grissom sat down nt the same tuble and ordered his supper served inn hurry. The waiter replied that ho tfas halting nn Dr. Brown, but would get kis sap per in n minute.- Grissom replied; lama fcoutlemau, and if auy man says I am not, I’ll make ldm feel this." Drown answered: "No one says you aro nut a gentleman." Grissom repeated his former words, when Brown said, “Oh, hush." Grissom spfang up, drawing his revolver. Dr. Drown started up, too raising both bauds, Grissom fired at him, missing, fired the second time, sbootin, Drown through the heart. Grissom tbon walked out to tho hotel office, bought a cigar and smoking, kept the crowd away with his pistol until un officer came to whom he but- rendered. Hair now in jail, bail being po nied. There are movements on foot to hang him to-night by a mob. Brown 1 was a riilzen of Columbus, Texas, and bis' murder bos greatly incensed every one. Two bolls passed through the baggage car. examining the track it was found that the fish bars connecting tho rails on both sides of the track had been uujolnted, aud the ends of the rails moved so that tho train would run down tho enbankment Tho phots fired and tho men seen leavo no doubt that ihis was a scheme to run the whole train down the bank, rob the express and plunder the passengers. That it was not carrion out may bo explained by the fact that the night was so lnlemoiy dark, that it rained heavily, and that the trein was only running at a speed of about of about ten miles an boar. No clue to the perpetrators of the fiendish net has been found.
