We believe fanning operations
are progressing with more than
uvuul vim, and to judge from the
amount of fertilizers shipped to
our depot, (il there is any virtue
iu them,) that corn and cotton j
will he plentiful next .lull, hut We
think this a had sign, although
farmers are learning to economize
some in this respect, yet we think
there is a lack of inteiest manifest
ed in raising home made fertilizers
which we think are much beitir
and cheaper. A largo area has
been sown iu wheat, oats and rye,
which are looking well for the sea
son.

Butler Money in the Lead*
A few dayh ago a reritlcnmn of
Irish descent walked into a store
at Reynolds, and called for a box
of patent pills, and threw down
his twenty-five cents to pay for
them. The merchant looked at
the hill and said, “we've all stop
ped taking that money in this 'ere
town " On heating this, he look
ed the merchaut earnestly in the
face nud said, “and faith I guess
you’d better take that than pills,
if it is a little harder to work
off.”
