The minutes of last meeting rend
confirmed.
. On motion of Alderman Colbert,
the report of the Marshall made to
the last meeting was refered to the
committee on £inauce and Taxstiou.
Ou motion of Aldernau Colbert,
the following resolution wa* read
and adopted, viz:
Resolved : That the Committee on
Salaries and Accounts to whom was
refered the account presented by II.
Peed, having reported that said ac
count is correct and proper charge
against the town amounting to $2.30,
be paid outot any funds ia the Treas
ury not otherwise appropriated and
that the Clerk draw his warrant for
the same in the warrant prcscriced
by law.
The Council then proceeded to re
vise the tax digest.
On inotiou of Alderman Colbert,
the rules were suspen led tor the
purpose of levying a tax the preseut
>ear.
On motion ot Alderman Colbert,
it was ordered that a tax of l-l of 1
per. cent, be levied on the taxable
property of this town and that the
Clerk collect the same by the 1st of
April next.
The Council thin adjourned until
t.ext regular meeting.

This exhibition was exhibited
on our street# last Wednesday and
had a string of boy* following
them as long as the moral law.
The man showed his monkey to a
great many houses in town and
took io as much as 26 cents. He
cereainly works for the honor ot
the thing.

We do nut know of a better
hotel in middle Georgia to direct
our people and the public gener
ally, than the National Hotel of
the City of Macon. Its present
proprietor, Mr. E. C. Corbett; is
one of the tuott obliging and ac
commodating gentlemen we have
ever met, and no pains are spared
to give their hoarders perfect sat
isfaction. This hotel is siluateu

Mr. John H. Wallace.
This old and truly good man
and excellent citizen indeed. He
died on Friday last at. Ms “old
borne” in Talbot county near
Prattsburg,in the 77th year of his
age. For tlie Inst forty years he
has lived where he died, and du
ring this long perion he has been
active in good works. His chari
ties were as broad as the world
aDd his house was the home of the
poor. In him tho widow aud the
orphan had an unflinching friend
and advocate. He never betrayed
an enemy (if he ever had one) nor
deceived a friend. He was just
to ail men. For 53 years he and
his wife (who survives him) walk
ed hand in hand, They had cel
ebrated their golden wedding two
years ago, surrounded by children
