The following are the resolutions passed by the Fiokling Lodge of Butler, in regerd to the death of Mr. James M, Jones: Whereas it has pleased nn All-wise Providence to tnke from our midst our much loved lriena and brother, Jauies M. Jones, who departed this life suddenly at 0 o’clock a. m. on the 1st day of July iiist., and, whereas our departed brother by bis upright, virtuous and unobtrusive life, bus well and truly illustrated the time- honored principles and teachings of our Order, and thereby greatly en deared himself not only to us, bis brethren, but to the entire communi ty in which he lived; and, whereas while our hearts are sad and sorr iug over his loss, and the blighting ot the bright promise of usefulness that the future held out to him, we trust that our loss has been his eten and that he has only been removed from tn earthly to n heavenly lodge above, where sorrow and parting can never come. We are over here very peacably dis posed towards all meo, except it be loafers. We deal with them according to law. Nettling oc curs here to disturb the oven tenor of our way. Difficulties and ru mors of difficulty disturb not the peace and quietude of our county. 1 often thiuk that we are greatly blessed by beiDg thus secluded from the more active scenes of life, and by this seclusion we are freed to a great extent from the seusa- tions, puNsicus and strifes of man. This is a part of the world that every man strictly tries to attend to his own business, and in the event, one well knows when he takes charge of his neighbor’s bus- unsolicited; he gets no com pensation for his undertakings. The farming interest at large so far ns 1 have traveled is better than the people anticipated up to the prescut time, though we are a little dry at the present, aud a re freshing shower of rain would prove beneficial to cotton aud c<>ru. Our farmers have been laboring very hard, and have at last learned that success iu farming menus effort, and therefore every man is exert- g'himself to the utmost of his ability. General Green is rather luxuriant on some farms among the post-oak lands, but will be sub dued iu time to do no material injury. The condition ot our so ciety luis been rapidly improving tor several years. 1 know of no man at leisure, they all seam to be up and doing. Last Friday business called me to Thomaston. While there l at tended the hanging ol Dick Daw-, son, col. There was a large crowd of spectators present to witness the execution. Mose Green, col., did not hang, lie was repreived by the Governor and sent to the pen itentiary for life-time. Crops uear Thouiaston arc not. as good generally as they are around Judge I'eople’s unit, 15 miles south of there, Mr. C, N Raines one of our gal lant fames of the soil, has a noble crop, both cotton and coru. The success of this man ought to be emulated, aud should be a beclnm- light to guide on the faint-hearted in the future of life to see the great amount of productions grown by his intelligent ami industrious arts. He is making rapidly u rep utation that will soon be credited beyond the b.minis of this State, Mr. McMiohcal and Carpenter, joiningplantations to Mr. it.,both have spiv ml id crops. Mr. J W. A: M.
