We Ore informed that a picnic will takeplicc from Butler on next Satur day, on the plaiitaliou of Mr. H. Mont- fort, about one mile south-east of Fickllilgs mill. A delightful picnic came off on last Thursday, on the plantation'll’ Ur. J ■ D. Mitchell. A largo number of peo ple were present, and the occasion was pleasant to all. A large quantity of dried fruit is being brought to market; the price is from five to six cents per. pound. We return our thanks to Mr. J. T. Monk, for one of the finest watermelons we have seen this season. Mr. James Williamson, an aged gentleman living a few miles from town, is dangerously ill at his home. The friends and acqtnintences of Mrs. Tom. Waters, will regret, to learn that she is seriously ill at her resides™ a lew miles front town. Pint) Level is a Methodist church located about five miles south-west of Howard, ou the line of Marion and Taylor counties, and near the residence of Mr. 8. Montgomery, According to announcement, on last Thursday by eight o’clock, buggies, wagons and even carts, drawn by one and two of the bo vine tribe, began to roll up from all quarters until by ten o'clock a vast crowd had congregated to en joy the pleasures of the occasion. Through the courtesy and hospi tality of the residents of the com munity al' were made to feel wel come and at home. The following was'the program me of the day : Beading by Superintendent, S. Montgomery—Singing by tin school—Prayer by Superintendent —procession—J, A. Steed, Mar shal of the day—Singing—Speech by Mr. W. L. Carter—Singing— Essay by Miss H C. Appersun— Singing—Speech by Master C. D, More—Singing—Essay by Miss Vasbti Montgomery— Singing— Speech by Mr. V, Mnntgouery, Sup'r. We will not nmke special mention of any of the speeches or essays; suffice it to say, they were all good. At lire close of the last speech which was about half-past one o’clock,dinner was announced by Kev. Ga., July 20th 1878. Returned from the Penitentiary. It will he remembered by many of the people of Taylor county that about six years ago, a negro we man by the name of Hesttr Bark sdale, was stabbed near Prattsburg. in this county, by another negro woman by the name of Roxey Nolton, and who died about time days after the deed was committed. This negro woman,Roxey Nolton, was then arrested, and after hav ing been confined in our juil for nearly two years, was sentenced by Judge Johnston, to the Pe tri te r.t Ur y for four years.
