of Mr. Lewis Hicks, of Crawford
County, whicli took plate at his
residence on last Sunday morning.
Mr. Hicks was an aged gentleman
Who had mauy friends, and for
several years held a responsible
office in the county in Which be
died. The cause of hie death Wo
learn was from dropsey. He Was
the father-in-law of Mr. Jafnes
Lucas, of this county,

On Tuesday the 12th inst., near
Careonville,* at the residence of
the bride's father, Mr. W. J. F.
Mitchell, the Rev. J. A, Ivey, of
Dawson, Go.-, and Miss Alice
Mitchell, were united in the holy
bonds of wedlock, by Rev. J, 8.
Searcy, assisted by Bev. B, L.
Boss. To the happy couple we
extend our best wishes.

By action of the Stockholders of
Butler Female College and Male
Institute,the Board of Trustees are
required to make occasional vis
its to the school while in session,
aud to examine carefully into the
mode ol teaching and the charac
ter of the recitations in the (lifter*
ent departments. Acting under
this order, We, the Board of Trus
tees, have made two visits to the
school this session,and spent some
time in each of the school rooms.
We deem it our duty to say
to the public tlmt we have on
uach occasion found the discipliii
good, the recitations promptly re
cited and well prepared, and the
conduct of the school such ns to
elicit our decided approval. We
And that the attendance has been
regular and that Prof. White, the
principal, has carefully watched
after the conduct of the students
onto) school as well ns in school.
We find that the rules adopt
ed by the Stockholders have been
carefully enforced in spirit and in
letter. We think the school in a
butter condition than it -has been
for the last three years, and we
earnestly ask tor it the support ol
