Cotton Thief Caught•
For sometime since Mr. James
Clark, of Oswichee, Ala., has been
missing cotton from his gin house.
He determined a night or two since
to watch, and while thus engaged
saw a negro enter the house, and
with as much cotton as he could
carry started off. He fired upou the
negro as ho ran, and went to the
house, supposing he had missed
him. Next morning he walked out,
and about fifty yards from the
house he found him dead, the shot
having taken effect. He was
preacher on tho place, and his
fellow-workmen and members in
the church butied him—Colum
