January 1.—-At 3 o’clock this morning the lnrge cot ton press and warehouse of the Uo- iou cottou press company were de stroyed by fire together with 10,- 121 bales of cotton. The property comprised four cotton presses with a capacity of pressing 2,500 bales of cotton per diem aud storage room for ovet 10,- 000 bales. Only two of the presses were run ning. The buildings aud piesses ar»» valued at ab nit $100,000, in sured for $00 0U0. The lo-s on cotton is estimated at $755,000, Ou this there is an insurance to the amount,of $472,- 250. The losses are, Knoop, llune- man & Co., 3, 305 bales—insured for $155,000; J. H.
