Worti. of aU the species is on the increase and bid$* fair soon to become a* numerous its tne locusts of Egypt iu the days of Moses and Dia- roah. Previous to the year 18(10 if n bog- gar passed through the country, it pro duced quite a sensation, and was the subject of remark for several’ days after now, there i.« scarcely n day that we do woo see one or more in the streets; and what is true of our town is doubt less true of every town and city whole country. Their number 1ms become so great that they have grown bold and dangerous. Ladies in the country are afraid to visit their friends and neighbors, ami jnyn lie down at night fearful of being robbed dered before morning. There is one trait in the character of the tramp to which, although era have doubtless noticed it., we call special attention*,'it is this : Nine out of ten will atop at every'bouse on street and ask for something to eat. they are refused at one half the houses, they still get more than they and as this is- a daily businc them, their object must, be something more than a desire to provide for a few meals ahead. It is our judgment tlmt injpany instances these tramps go into yard* and houses upon the pretense of getting food, but in reality their object is to ascertain the chance of stealing something at night. We have no doubt that a large amount of the stealing iu the country is done by tramj We presume thirt among the vast number of tramps Wmo infest the emu: try, there are some whe really desei ? the aid and sympathy of ’the people but, “like ungel visits, they are fo\ and far between.** Those who belonj to this class, we think would do much better to retnaiB where they are known. Again many Of Them say they are seek ing work; but only offer to put them at k, and they haVe business elsewhere. Wbat can be done to get clear of them, is a problem that is grow ing in importance every day; to contribute onr mite to its solution we make the following suggestion. In the first place, whenever a trump says he is seeking work, give him something to do; put hiiu to work in the gardeu, or cutting wood; give him something, anything to A Bold KoWherj. kjqn >ieul, a n#gr- scoundrel, who lived at Ontreville last yscir, callid on Mr 8. Howell, and frid citisfen of that place, last Monro* Jan. 13th,and asked him to change a 8mall^|till. Mr. Howell took out his pocket-book to comply with the request, when the diifcy rascal, Sam, grabbed it, which contained about forty dollars, and made off with his stolen prize, and effected a speedy escape. Pursuit was made but the thief is not yet caught. He went in the direction of Thom- v astou, and a post>e ot gentlemen are on the lookout for him. This was a bold robbery, aud we trust t the. infamous criminal may ght to si eedy justice—vTal- n Standard. Col. R. W. Col Jeurisoh was about fif ty-eight Vmrs of age, and was borne, we believe, in twiggs coun ty, l>a. He was a practicing law yer in Macon tor many years. For a long time he had heeu a great sufferer from dyspepsia. A Biul Mule. Dr. Flournoy’s old mule “Reu ben,” that created a sensation in Hawkiasville last spring, killed Mr. Allen Dav.s, near Fort Val ley, last week. The Foit Vuile) Mirror gives the following par ticulars;. On Wednesday Mr. Alien Da vis, an old gentleman who was liv ing on Dr. Flournoy’s place, went into the lot with the Doctor’s son, Joe, to catch Reuben, the Doctor's mule, both parties le -.tig armed with sticks. The mule ran Mr. r. a t£ Davis down aud jumped or ielf upon him, when Joe hit him arid uiove him off, but as the mule rose be kicked the old gentlemau on the breaking the skull, from thejpffects of which he died that night. Thu mule is a regu lar fighter, and is well known as dangerous, so much so that no one but Dr. Flournoy and his lilt.e son ever attempts to huudie. h m. Dumb for Twenty Years.—-Ogle thorpe Echo: There once resided in fchi* county a lady who, at the age of sixteen years, from some cause or other, stopped the use of her tongue, and until ju9t before her death, twenty years after, she was never heard to utter a word. As her last hours were drawing near she sent, for some friends and dictated her will in a manner that proved her soiiud in rnind and flu ent in language. She spoke of many things that, occnm* in the cuur^y during her apparent dumb ness, hut gave no reason for her strange conduct.
