Parties holding County Orders on Taylor county issued prior to Dccmber 1st 1878, me requested to present them that they may be registered for payment iu their orders W. P. CALDWELL, Treasurer. Buti.ru Ga. April 21st, 1879. Mr* Editor t “While gliding down the strewn of life,” we certainly expect to come in contact with “rough waves.” Will say, for the gratifica tion of those who arc so very consider ate of divine injunctions, that we would feel more inclined to “press zealously forward,” did we not consider it un just for mHsquerade armies to rise up ami display the animal instincts of their nature, by “croas-firing” at us until booming can(n)onz are heard. We shall not let either passion or de traction set our pulse to throbbing; rather we will quietly gather the grains of valuable suggestions in each aud add them to our sheaf of self-improvement. ’Tis pleasant to know that some are willing to plaoe proper constructions on our pieces. Can truthfully say, we “would if we could,” elevate and en courage man-kind. To this, we think nature justly owes her loveliest charm. Having no desire to retard the wished- for era of brotherly-kindness and good will, we would not, intentionally write in such a manner as to call forth evil passions, or, provoke a reply. Tb< Southern gentlemen have ever sbowu gentle courtesy to the ladiea t aud uo sensible, modest wouiau would have them think for a moment, that she looked upon them as “atomical automutous." Gifted, proud-spirit ed, pure-minded men, such as would rally to the rescue of the weak,” should be highly valued. As free agents they have the privilege to do earnest ly, faithfully and intelligently, the work assigned them by their Creator. As probationers here, they are train ing for another world. God’s blessings like so many angels accompany them along life’s way; true, they meet with disappointments, difficulties, diseases, stc., but God invites, Christ intercedes and the Holy Ghost helps their infirmi ty. The tendorest ties which hind them to earth, should endeavor to lighten the pressure of their cures and trials by love and sympathy, sweet and Heavy Rains.—The recent heavy rains which occurred last week, have hern the cause of much damage to land and properohroughout the couuty, and our farmers.have been much delayed in the cultivation of their crops. This Fruit (Jr'op in this Section. —During the lust few days we have made dilligeut inquiry from all parts of the county as to the amount of damage done to the fruit crop of this section bv the recent cold spell, and find that there will not be more than one-third of a crop, and 10 some pails of the coun ty there will be an entire failure. The Duff Green House. We would call the attention of our readers, especially those who desire to spend the summer from home, to tlm advertisement of this most popular and praise-worth hotel, located at Dalton, Ga. It was our good pleusure about one year ago to visit this beautiful lit tle city, situated in the lofty bills of North Georgia, and partake of the hos- pilalities of this magnificent hotil, and to enjoy the delightful breeze which there alone can be found. We would therefore recommend Dalton to be one of the most healthy places iu the State, and this hotel from personal experi ence, to be equal if not superior t- anv we have ever visited. Guano Floater. The recent heavy rainR, doubtless has to a certain extent, damaged the ef fect of Guano already put out, a small amount in addition to that already used will prove a paying investment. I have a few tons of Patapsco, Stone, and Americus Guano left on hand. These Guanos have been tested and you’ll do well to secure some, before they are all sold. Cotton option 500 pounds. W. L. A suggestion was receutly made in the Buena Vista Argus that Gen. Phil Cook should bo the next Democratic candidate for Governor of Georgia, and that Col Hudson, of Schley county, be the Detuorat* ic candidate for Congress in this District in 1880. The Lumpkin Independent, which has for many years been a strong advocate of Gen. Cook, replied to the sugges tion as follows: tfhis i3 not likely, and the hint comes from some one, doubtless, who wants to see some particular friend take Gon.
