At i meeting of this association at Gaines ville last year, Cartersville, situated on the Western & Atlantic railroad, was chosen as the place for holding the present meeting. Our first object therefore will be describe as near as possible the traces of our journey and the scenes which, met our view. Our visit and the scenes which we. enjoyed raude more pleasant from the fact that we were accomnauicd by our family, - In company with Mr. E. B. Waters •and wife of our town, and Mr. F. S. Rucker and wife, of Flint ttiver facto ry, we left our home and had a very pleasant ride to Macon. We found there buss with two of the best horses iu front to be found in the city, owned by Mr. B. Dub, of the Lanier House This transportation we are proud to say, stands ready., and waiting at the arrival of every train, night or day to iconvey its guests to this magnificent hotel, which by the unceasiug energy of its proprietor, has won a world-wide reputation, and not to be surpassed by any in the South. It is dtie fcbo Central mid' South western Railroads that we tender them our best wishes and sincere thanks for the kindness so freely extertcled Ais on all like occasions. We have heard much complaint against these companies on account of their high tariffs on freight, etc., but when we coipe to consider the vast amount of money which it takes *to keep this invention in operation, \fe are constrained in our own minds to 'believe they are justifiable to a certain extent, nevertheless we have alwayi been a warm supporter of these great benefactors. After having traveled the entire nigHt as the dawn of day approached a most beautiful sight presented itself to ou,r view. The lofty peaks of the Blue Ridge mountain with its hoary heaji extending toward the skies, reminded us that the Gate City, the Capital q£ the empire State of the South, situated in the bosom of the hills of north Georgia, was. near at hand. Arriving in Atlanta at 5:5 on Wedr neaday morning, with our appetites keen for breakfast, we were met and made welcome by a host of friends to enjoy the hospitalities which Atlan ta would so freely gave on this oedy- sion. Soon we found ourselves within that mansion of buildings the KIMBALL HOUSE and never have we seen its spacious halls so handsomely adorned and the whole building presented a lively and prosperous appearance. The clerks seemed fearful that something might, be left undone that would tend to mar our pleasure. The table was nsurpassed the servants attentive, and the hotel altogether is, first-class in every respect. At Atlanta the Cartersville Cornet Band a most charming band of music Married, After our forms had been closed and carried to press the following marriage was reported- to us : .•At. the • residence of the .brides brother, Mr. William Gunn, in Chat tahoochee, county,on Sunday evening last, Mr. Henry Peed, of Butler, to Miss Nancy Gunn, of Chattahoochee county. Mr. Robert Patterson, offi ciating. The marriage was quite un expected to all. even the nearest re lations. Their many friends, wish ^ . . tiicm much pleasure and happiness, (bad come from Cartersville the mghtj previous to meet tho Press Association and accompany them hack to Curters- tliey too added much to the en joyment of the occasion. FOR IWKTJIUYILLK. On the morning mentioned above, Governor Brown placing at the com mand of the 4 ‘Association,” a hand some train of ears, our party moved off uud were soon dying along through the heart of the lofty hills aud through the •ich valleys of Cherokee Georgia. The different crop prospects hero "Cere all that any one could desire, and more especially wheat crops, the yield of which will be almost unprecedented. It is all headed out and amnia to be entirely free from rust. The stands of corn and cotton aro. excellent. The fruit crop is almost entirely destroyed. About 10:30 our train reached this beautiful and flourishing little city, sit uated about-49 miles from Atlanta iu the northwestern portion of the State, surrounded by lofty bills nnd fertil valley8, and we at once were captured by the hospitable people of Carter nnd each member properly assigned to ihis home. It was our good fortune to be cast, with Mr. James Summer of the Bartow House, which is a .very eat throe story brick building situated n tho east side of the railroad. We found everything at this excellent ho tel in perfect order, and notwithstand ing the Superior Court of Bartow jounty being in session, and a very argo crowd being in attendance, -the clever and enerjetic proprietor never failed to bestow his hospitality. At r ll:30 the members of the Asso- cirtion and a large concourse of citi zens assembled at the Opera House> which is the most perfect gem of a th6 atre we have ever ficen. Bill Arp wai introducted by Mr. William Anderson of Cartersville. After which Major Smith arose and responded in a brief' address; replete with cordiality amt hu mor. Hon. Mark A. Cooper was then introduced by Mr. Aq.derscin, who read a paper on the^resources, mineral and agricultural of Georgia, After transaction of some impoitant business the Association was presented with r very large and handsome wreath of flowers from Mrs. WVH. Felton. In the afternoou,a very pleasant ex oursiou was enjoyed ou tho Cheroke railroad to Taylorsville. » At. 8 o’clock on Thursday morning the Association assembled iu the Op< House for the purpose of concluding tho business for the present year, and to determine} upon place for holding the next Press Convention. Very cordial Invitations were extended from Chaly beate Springs, Cuthberfc and Rome, but Cuthbert was finally chosed by a major ity of the members present as tho best place for holding tho next Press Con vention which meets in May. Tho President, Mr. J* H. At. 9 o’clock P. M. on Thursday a large .crowd of happy souls boarded tho egular passenger train for Atlanta with many shouts of joy and best wishes, for the citizens of Cartersville. Arriving at Atlanta about 11 o/clock we changed cars for Macon, leaving a large number of tho members in Atlanta. Quite early on Friday morn ing we again found ourselves at the Lauler House, and enjoyed one of the most delightful breaktast that tongue can tell, but not like our fel low citizen wo governed our apethes. The undersigned feols compelled to confess that lie must get down * to his knitting and work for., a l s *-W f and pay for wlmt he gets. This is of coarse very humiliating to a “white-man, hut then, there is no use mincing wOrdw over it. • , That “everv t ub should stand on its own bottom,’’ is a piece of Scripture that is doubt lest u mystery to most persons, hut then, 1 believe, that in its practice there would be mure genuine religeon in tho country, than comes by “Faith,” or any other technical theol ogy, and that all men should observe it, us well us women who carry home steads or estates in theii own names, But to make a long mutter short, T wish to go largely uud lucratively into the “Practice of Medicine,” an 1 to pledge my best efforts to give imiisfao- tion to all who give me their con fi'dunpe, and fair compensation. But I 'would seriously advise all who neither would or could “yaw,” Dml it. is a bad thing to be always taking medicine. Respectfully, • . J[. WALKER. | nnd Hnrnhln* habit fared.
