Extinction ot the Bonaparte
Family. ,
It will be remembared that when
' the Emperor Louis Napuban Bo-
/ naparte (generaf^tnown as Louie
Nnpolean)lnst the throue of France
in the war with Frueeia, he louoil
in England an asylum for himself
and family, consisting of his wife,
the Empress Eugenj^ and an only
son. The ex-emperor survived
the loss of his throne hut a short
time; Eugenia yet lives. The only
son of the deceasedEmperor known
as Prince Napolean, having been
trained at the government military
school of England, entered the
British army hearing a commission
from the English Queen. When
the British army, or a portion of
it was ordered to Africa, the
Prince went with it; and now, a
day or two since, the telegraph
dashed to ns the intelligence of his
death. He was killed by a party of
Zulus while he was with a reconnoftey-
ing party of the British army. Thus
has jierished the last hope of perpetnas
ting, in a direct line the Bonaparte
family.
The death of this young Prinoo will
tendtostreligthen the present republican
government of France, as it will leave
the Bonapartists without a leader or a
cause. The Imperialists (or Bonupart-
ists) will now be compelled to elect be
tween the Bourbons and the Republi
cans, and it seems to us that it will be
the latter. This will leave but
party, the monarchists proper; hut
that party is weak and growing weak
er every day, we trust the French Re
public will grow inure stable with time,
and more and more fixod in the hearts
and affections of Frenchmen. A sta
ble government is what France needs
above all things else; for, she has been
in a chronic state of anarchy for the
last hundred years.
Our sympathies were with Louis Nn-
polean till his death, and afterward
with his son. We think the common
people of France were happier under
the leigu of Louis Nupolijn, than they
have been since the days of Henry IV;
but as the French proverb has it, “mall
, proposes, but God disposes.” Peace to
the ashes of .the Bonapartes, and
rive la Republiqtie, for tho France
of to-day
A Houatoi. County Mun on tho
Horns at mi Ox Narrow Es
cape thorn Death.
8nme d»y« since Mr. Thomas
Ohattcey, who liv. s near Big Indi-
un creek, in Houston county,
shouldered h'S rifle aud went to
the swamp hunting for squirrels.
Soon after entering the swamp
his dog treed a apuirrel and Mr.
Chancey commenced looking for
the game. While thus engaged
he observed an ox feeding around
near by but did hot apprehend any
danger from him. While wa king
around the tree he was suddenly
and unexppct.dly attacked by the
ox. He says the first thing he
knew he found himnelf being lift
ed into the ethereal regions on the
horns of an oxship. He held 'on
to his rifle, and the ox continued
throwing him up and catching him,
as he desceuded,between his horns,
until finally the hammer of his
rifle came in contact with a hush,
which discharged the gun and
caused the stampede of the beast.
Mr. Chancey had a narrow es
cape front death, as the ball .from
his rifle passed under his clothing
and burnt the skin near a vital
part ot his body.
The ox had been driven out of
Mr. Chancey’s field in the morn
ing, and it seems he intended
avenging himself upon that gen
tleman.
As soon as Mr. Chancey collect
ed his wits sufficiently—he
knowledges he was badly scared
—he loaded his rifle and put nut
down the swamp after his enemy,
which he soon overtook, and after
shooting into him fwo bullets,aud
causing the ex to merely switch
his tail, lie became exasperated and
reiurnid to his residence for a more
effective weapon. He saw I he own
er of the lieast and told him that
the beast's doom was sealed. Mr.
Chauct-y was sieved further !rouble
however, as, when he returned to
(he battle-field, it was foiiud that
his enemy had gone to the “hap
py limiting groituds.''—Hawkiiis-

Trouble in Laurens County.
Borne months ago John Perry,
Sr., died leaving his son, Edward
Perry,.as Execu or, Mrs. John
Perry his widow, step mother ot
Edward, and Mrs. Susan Perry,
sister-in-law ol said Edward. In
winding up the estate an amount
of money that the deceased was
kcetft to have could uotbe lound.
Thfl^o women were charged with
having it and had a hearing be
fore the Ordinal y, who decided
that they must produce the mon

Superior and Supreme courts 'and
JudgF-Duncan sustained. The
women were arrested and impris
oned last July but have steadily
refused to confess or acknowledge
aay complicity iu the matter.
Week before last a party ol
masked men went out to the jail
and released the women. The

The women were seen crossing f
ferry under an escort ot eight men.
The mHsked mun left notices, one
tu Edward Perry warning him, on
peril ofhis life, to tnke no steps
to arresst the women one com
manding Joseph Perry to rebuild
a burned house within three
months, and a third one telling
Judge Duncan that he was in dan
ger. There is great excitement
in the county over the nuttier,—

The Macon Telegraph say* that
the claim againat the Macon and
Augusta road of the city for an
annuity of a thousand dollars a
year for the past sixteen years ha
been arranged and cloned up by
Mayor Huff, who was authorized
by the city council to visit Angua-
ta, and settle the matter up. The
matter wan arranged by the pay
ment by tho road of one thouaan l
dollars lor the past dues and the
arrangement of *. contract by
which the city i* guaranteed the
payment o1 an annuity of a thou-
Niifd dollar*, payable, if deaired,
monthly in advance. This guar
Htitee is made b'ndmg on the road
by the authorities, and if the
road in sold at any time it w>ll be
sold with that encumbrance upon
it. The reason given for the
dwindling away of the claim from
$16,000 to $i,000 are some defect
in the original contract, difficulty
of the lapse of time, et c.

f..r tlu tlf-aMise, the unfortunate
Samuel 11. Hill has ben adjudgnl
guilty of murder, with the r»com
mentation that he b.* sent to the
penitentiary for life’. This verdict
dura not surprise ns. True, a mm
hould be justified for punishing
unto death the base invader and
destroyer of his domestic peace and
happim ss. But it. was clearly
shown by the evidence in this cum
that the wifi* was a wanton, 1-e-
quenting the lowest, dens of infamy,
dr^ased in men's apparel, and in
the com pan v of lewd fellows. More
over, that she evm threw off the
panoply ofher husband's name,
and took a fancy soubriquet.
No attempt was even made to as
sert her innocence of th* direst sin
that ran stain the life of man or
woman Indeed, even the husband
admitted it, whilst clingiug still
ith maudlin tenderness to the
woman who had disi onored him.
What excuse, then, can be urged
for the shedding of blood, notin
behalf of injured innocence, but
established guilt. Between th.
two cases the line is as well defined
as darkness from light, and the dis
tinction as wide as the poles are
asunder.—Macon Tolegpaph.
Convict Captured.
Yesterday afternoon policeman
Zeuo Pickett succeeded iu captur
ing the notorious burglar, Feagin
Everett, colored. He was sent
from this county to the penitentia
ry tor seven years for burglary.
He, with several others, escaped
some weeks ago from the place of
Mr. Chess Howard, near Butler,
Georgia. He was placed in jail,
where he will remain until a guard
arrives to carry him home.—.Co
