A Word to Farmers.
We have the pleasure of pre
senting to the farmers of this sec
tion the well-known and reliable
warehouse firm of C. D. Anderson
A Bon, of Macon, who are now
offering to our farmers many extra
inducements in Abe storage of their
cotton during the present season
As a proof of this fact they offer to
handle all cotton entrusted to their
care at only fif oents per bale and
when sold by them only 25 cts., it
charged foi commission, the usual
price in Macon being from $1 to
811.25. We hope our farmers will
look to their interest and accept of
the inducements which Messrs. An-
derson & Bon are now offering,
Godey’e Lady’s Book for Sep
tember
la a number foil of attractions foi
those who, returning from seaside
and mountain, find their pretty
crisp dresses and finery of two
moQths ago a faded, torn array of
records of boating, climbing,croquet
and summer pleasure. The pages
are full of suggestive matter tor a
novel and becoming foil wardrobe,
and the illustrations are accompa
Died by dear descriptions. One
costume for the house and one for
walking are especially attractive,
and the diagram gives the outlines
of a stylish tall wrap very eaBily cut
and made. Darley's picture is a
home scene, and the great artist is
never so attractive as in such do
mestic groups. It is a tender peace
ful setose that will appeal to all
hearts. The literary matter is full
of interest; the story of “Roslyn'
Fortune," followed tor months with
plqwure, now draws the intense in-
tspas interest of every reader to
wards its conclusion. There is a
great variety of intertaining sto
ries and poemB, and every depart
ment is tully up to its usual stand
ard of excellence. We will furnish
the Butler Aekald and Godey’a
Lady's Book tor one year at the
low price of #3. on application at

A HORRIBLE CHIME.
A (JKAND-MOTHKR IMPLICATED IN
the Deed.
On Wednesday evening last cor
oner H. Feed, being notified of a
foul deed having been committed on
Tuesday at Howard, in which a
negto woman, Harriet Long, was
fouud dead near the dwelling of her
grand-toother. The coroner on ar
riving at Howard immediately
summoned a jury and an inquest
was held over the body. After
close examination it was found
th^t her neck was broken and she
was otherwise severely bruised.
Every indication proved that a he
had been murdered. After the
examination of a number of wit
nesses the jury returned a verdict
of murder committed with a weap
on used in the hands of Marish
Drane, a grand-mother of the de
n-abed. A warrant w^s immedi
ately issued for bar arrest which
was accomplished, and early next
morning she was lodged in jail at
•hitler to await a mors thorough
investigation.
present was about six thousand.
Every thing passed off pleasantly,
not one thiug happened to mar the
pleasures of the day. Our candi
date Dr. Smith, of your county,
was present anu made a hue im
pression on all with whom be came
in contact. That he will be elected
is in my mind a certainty. 1 think
Crawford county will go almost
solid tor him. 1 have yet to hear
the fiist man say that he will not
support him. Folitical matters are
ou the wiug and almost every man
you meet thjdfcs that he is the one
man most suited to fill some coun
ty office.
How is your family, is the pass
word ot the candidates with us.
How interested a man becomes iu
his fellow-man’s prosperity os soou
as he puts his name before the peo
ple for offioe. Enough of that.
Crops are looking tolerably well—
cotton has the rust in spots and
will not turn out as much as once
expected. Hut if the railroads do
not go back on us as there Beems
to be some prospect of its doing
now, and we can get last year's
price for our cotton, the country
will be comparatively easy. Bo
mote it be.
In conclusion let me ask that
you give us a Smith boom, and
we will respond to the echo,

“The Vacant Chair.” by Augu-ta

abundance, vast variety and excel

artistic; and it may well cause
surprise that it can be afforded at
the low price of 25 ceuts a copy or

A Sad Heath.
Never before have we been call
ed npoc to pntform so sad and
solemn duty as is enjuiued upon
us in'tbis brief notice, aud wheu it
is finished these few lines will he
lor inferior in a discriptive sense to
the many traits of character an.
purity of a Chirstiau lady.
At 8 o’clock ou Fr.d y night
last Mas. Sarah Lumpkin, the
wife of Mr. D. Lumpkin, while rui-
rounded by her affectionate hus
band, her loving chiluren aud t
host of sympathising friends,
breathed her last and entered into
that reel that remameih for the
people of God. We too quietly
kuelt by her bed Side a few hours
before her death, kisBed her palhgj
cheeks and bid her a lung farewell
Truly this parting was sod to our
hearts, but blessed angel she rests
in peace. No purer or Christian
lady has ever passeu iiom earth to
heaven. Having liv, to the age ot
three score years tier trials and dir-
nuultres in life w re gieut, but by
tne help of her jUasrer she boie
them with patience to the unit.
She was one iu whom no oue could
fiuil fault, a mother to the moth-
teas audi a trieud to lire ueedy, “her
children they use up aud call her
blessed, her nushauu he also pais-
jelli her.” Her connection.with tue
Methodist church was irom her
childhood to hei grave, aud though
her uttticlion was long aud weaueu
she was never known to rnurmer or
compam. To the afiiicteu ou • we
otter our heart-telt sympathy wmlo
we too share her loss.
Near baudersville, Ga., on the
llfth inst., Mr. John H. rleaih, ol
this county, while ou a pleasant
visit to the home ot his mother was
suddenly taken with a severe spell
of pneumonia aud died on the day
above mentioned, have been afflict-
ed only seven days. He was an
excellent farmer, a good neighbor
aud a worthy citizeu. He leaves
a wife and tnree children to mourn
his loss. Their many Irieuds here
sympathize with them in their sad
bereavement.

because no delay is necessary for the

very little kneading is required. It saves
money, because in three months’ use the
saving in milk, eggs, and other ingredi
