SHU a* Larya,
Elsewhere we publish the tiati-
mooy and the ‘Coroner's inquest
held over the body of Mr. John
R. Duckworth, who wak killed at
Reynolds, on the 22nd nit., by Mr.
Du Bose Humphries; it will be seen
also that a warrant was recoin
mended by the jury to be issued for
!/the arrest of said Humphries.which
wa rrant was issued, but up to thin
time no arrest has been made. We
cannot tell what course will be
pursued by our authorities in the
matter, but we trust they will look
well to the interest oY our people.
We have been requested and
tel it our duty therefore to state

my life. Ducktrbrth had H.,
by the collar.—H , pulling buck
seemingly trying to get away or
trying to get bis pistol out Duck
worth pushed him bockw/d into
some boxes. Dr. Coleman pulled
D., backward and as D., came back
Humphries fired with a pistol the
first time.—Juckworth still hold-
H.; he wed the second time,
after which I' pushed him, H,
through the middle door etfme and
closed the door: D/ckworth then
,e has shot me through." Dr
w Ileman opened the back, and I
assisted D., out of the back ^>or.
Duckworth then asked me “ra do
what 1 o uld for him, as he wae
badly hurt.” This was 3:30 o’clock
p. m., on 22nd inst. H., died about
4:30 p. m. Duckworth was arm
ed with a pistol but did not draw.
Duckworth was not ad vanning when
he was shot the last time: It was
only a few seconds between the
shots. Duckworth was shot on
the left ot the median line, about
two inches below the caitilego of
the ribs. I think Duokworth died
from internal hemorrhage, caused
by the pistol shot. Duokworth
had hie hands down to his side
when he was shot the last time.
Dr. A. Calhoun sworn testifed
as follows : Humphries came inio
my store on yesterday about 3:30
o’clook p. m. I advised him to
avade Duckworth. _H. said D.,had
attacked him at Butler to day.
H., said he told D., there in But
ler, that he was not going to take
his wife nor his child to Texas
with him. About this time D.
walked in shaking hands with Dr.
Newsom and myself. It was unu
sual for D , to come into my store
or to shake hands with me. H,,
was standing facing my fire. Duck-
Worth entered my front door, and
came immediately to where we
were. I spoke to H., and when
H., turned round Duckworth col
lared him in striking attitude.—He
Duckworth pushing Humphries
baekward between some boxes. I
then pulled D., backward and
while doing bo I heard a pistol shot,
I don’t think this shot to k effect.
Immediately thereafter I heard a
second Bhot. I had hold ot Duclt-
worlh at the time. I then disc v-
ored Duokworlh’s clothing on fire.
Dr. Newsom theu put Humphries
out fnrough the middle door and
bqtn of us together put Duckworth
out at the hack door. Before
Duckworth went out he showed me
wheie he was shot. My opinion is
DuBose Humphries shot John U.
Duckworth. I did not soeariy pis
tol. I think the wound D., re
ceived was sufficient to havo pro
duced death.
