til we were infoi med by the Treas
urer (hat our orders coold not be
paid, as all the money in his ban's
with the exception of one hundred
dollars, yet to bo returned by the
Collector, and the prnlmhilitics
were that after waiting twelve
months for a decisiou lrom the
county Commissiuneis with the
hope of getting the little sum, and
it one- having been refused us by
the board, that we would have to
wait twelve months longer unless
we could trade it at a discount to
a merchant. Preferring this rath
er thfct to wait the other twelve
months we were forced to discount
the order on Taylor county at ten
per cent. In view of all'these cir
cumstances we are at a loss to know
what to thiuk of the Commission
ers of this county,hut we trust that
Mr. Hiott and the other members
of the board will recottsidtr their
action in the matter and pay os
what is due. Upon a resolution
offered by the chairman, Dr. J. D.
Mitchell, and unanimously adopted
by the board it was d cided that
all expenses accruing from each
term of the court should be prompt
ly paid aod that the county should
be kept free flora debt, which we
thiuk a wise conclusion, and should
be promptly adhered tp. The
amouut claimed by us is a part of Bitters,
the expenses of the eon it and there

not pay it

hut will venture the assertion that
it was not over #50.00.
The bridge referred is on the
moat important road that leads to
our place,and if it is abolished onr
taxes in a very short time will he
less than the figures last mentioned

will all be turned to some other
point ont side the county if the
bridge is not repaired. The Com-

wet season when tho most impor
tant travelling is done. To abolish
this bridge would not only damage
the county but would be doing a
very great injustice to the people at
this vicinity. Howard receives from
1500 to 1800 bales cotton annually
anil three fourths of it cornea from
North of Howard is inaccessible to

under consideration. There is but
a very small amount required to
repair the bridge, and the county
would in a short time lose ten
times the amount invested by neg-
lecting-to do so.
We earnestly usk for the bridge
and if uur petition is unheeded
will be compelled to resort to our
own individual means to have the
work done which we would consider

as the clouds appeared thick and
heavy, but to the pleasure of all
the day was the most delightful tor
which the heart cou.d wish—cool,
and bracing, yet pleasant enough to
give the children free exercise in
their gleeful ways. Arriving at the
factory about ten o clock, every one
found sufficient aniousement until
tho hour for dinner was announced.
It is needless to say iho supply of
refreshments upon this occasion
were super-abundant (or tho time
thereof, for the citizens of Butler
were never knownto be found want

curred during the day to mar the
happiness ol those that attended,
