Reynolds, Ga., Jan , 2nd 1886.
—Charles Newsome a negro living
about two mils from town was
killed by his brother Lewis last
Thursday, Charles sent Lewis to
town for a bottle of whisky to be
used at a house-raising, and when
he returned, the bottle looked
hardly as full as Charles expected
to find it and he began to abuse
Lewis and accuse him of drinking
it; Lewis denying it, Charles called
him a liar; when Lewis ran into
his house, got his pistol and shot
him; the ball going into his side,
not content with one shot, Lewis
shot the second time but missed
his mark, then he attempted to
cut his now mortally wounded
brother, but was held in check by
the crowd who was there at the
house-raising. Lewis made his
escape; Charles died in a few hours
after being shot.
It is time for such outrages to
be stopped. Lewis ought to be
hunted down and be made an ex
ample of.

'Tis hard to say '
Wi en all our joy is gone,
One year age beBHLriug feet,
Wore heard frou^Bbru 'till night—
Her winning ways and voice so sweet
Mane all our troubles light
Hut now her little vacant cn.jr
Sits qniet.all the day,
And the little curls of sunuy hair,
Are all we have oi Olay !
Her little cradle in bid from view,
Ho err pty and so sad ;
We put aside her carriage too,
From where it used to stand.
The stringa her little hands have tied,
Are still about the wheels
Our baby has Liken her last, last ride,
In the carriage she loved so well !
The little clothes otir durliug wore,
Hive all been laid away ;
With the shoes and stockings.worn, but dear
For the sake of little Ulay. '
A trnnk quite filled with all she had,
Sits locked beside the wall ;
No more we’ll hear that voice so sweet
Come singing up the hall !
Her little pink, embroidered cloak—
How proud she was to don it 1
And on top of her other treasures there
Lies her highly prized “white bonnet.”
The chewing-gum that Papa bought
She clasped with weakening hands—
We keep it. now, in her little cup,
With the "A. B. C'z.” that llama bought.
Four month’s almost we've miRsed our child.
A tnl tho’ sad our lives have be.-n,
We must control cur grief so wild,
For we know she is safe from sin.
Yes ! our darling Ci apie is far from here
And while crushed our hearts and sad
We hope to meet her “Over There.”
Whore all is happy, bright and glad !
Wherenow she rests in Jesus’ arms,
And waits for us to come —
To leave all these poor earthly charms
Aud come to her bright home !

Bivebhili., December 25th, 1885.
Christmas in Butler.
Since our last regular issue there
has nothing occurred of startling
wonder in this vicinity. Peace and.
quiatude has been the ruling cle
ment, but many of our people have
enjoyed the usual festivities of the
Christmas holidays. Christmas
Trees and Christmas turkeys have
contributed a large share towards
the enjoyment of many pleasant
occasions. In every direction we
learn of an old time Christmas tree
ladened with its beauties,its charms
and its pleasures for the children
While everybody have had their
fun, from the little bov to the gray
haired man.it has nevertheless been
one of the most quiet and pleasant
Christmas socially speaking, that
has occurred in our community.
The Masonic fraternity and every
citizen who has felt so disposed,
have enjoyed a good turkey dinner
and invited their friends to partake
of the luxuries of life. King Alco
hol, as heretof“re,has had no ruling
power, and our city council finds
nothing to do. The usual amount
of fire-works have been displayed,
and all have spent a joyous time.
The most exciting feature of all
among our sportsmen has been the
egg and turkey shooting matches,
inch were freely indnlged in and
many excellent shots were made.
As to Christmas dinners, we do not
like to discriminate among any of
our friends as all have be&a very
kind to us, but it becomes necessary
that we should return our many
thanks to Mr. and Mrs. J L Parker,
who were exceedingly kind to us.
On Wednesday Mrs. Parker pre
pared a most elegant dinuer at
which many friends were present.
Oar editor and family have never
enjoyed a more excellent one. We
cannot refrain from making special
mention of the large and handsome
turkey prepared for this occasion.
It was certainly the largest and
most elegantly prepared of any we
enjoyed. Not only this, hut every
thing that heart could wish was
spread before a large attendance.
We return thanks to Mr and Mrs
Parker for their kindness and wish
for them a long and happy life.

Quite a party of our citizens are
soon to go to Florida through the
country.
We are to have a masqarado
party on the 12th, and everybody
is looking forward to a good time.
Prof. Frederick will open school
here Monday the 11th, and in
order to get the benefit of tbe
public school fund pupils should
be entered at once, as tbe first three
months will receive the public
fund.
The good Methodists, of our
place, feel like they have beeu
treated unfairly, by somebody in
not having Sunday preaching.
We think we should have one Sun-

excellent sermon, he was welcomed
