TKfe^Gordon men of this county
did their flinty on the 2Gih day of
last month % giving to General
Gordon a majority over Major Ba
con of nearly three to' one. More
than this, the friends of the gallant
Gordon "rave him the votes of fif
teen othey- counties on the same
day. The sixteen counties that
■were carried for Gordon on the same
.day that <yur county voted and
eituatod in nil sections of the State,
to our mind fairly indicate the
sentiments knd feelings of the peo
ple on this Question all over our
btate. Wo therefore believe that
General Gordon will carry at least
three-fourthsl of the counties that
have yet to select delegates to the
gubernatorial Convention In mak
ing this prediction, we, of course^
assume that tlifo friends of General
Gordon in the bounties yet to select
delegates, will come up as fully to
the discharge of their duty, as his
friends have doijo in the counties
that have already acted.
So far at concerns the friends of
General Gordon in this county,
their work with referenco to the
gubernatorial canvass is done, and
we mny aay, well done. We take
pleasure in congratulating the
Gordon men of this county on the
fact, that as a rule, they have not
been bitterly abusive of either Maj.
Bacon or his friends. We take
pleasure in saying further, that we
have written noting, 1 and inteded
to print nothing during the canvass
calculated to wound (the feelings
of the friends of Major! Bacon In
this we have only done; our duty.
We regard Major Bacffi,, and most
of his friends as good democrats.
Those who preferred Major Bacon

The canvass between (General

and s 'Class of the party to \ which
both Bacon and Gordon m«n are

Voting for any Taylor cofmty can
didate and at the same time indi
cate the preference of this county
to the Democrats of the other
counties in the district.
The only objection we have
heard to this plea is, that it would
give to the candidate receiving the
highest vote in this county, nn ad
vantage he would not otherwise
possess. Many of our friends are
of opinion, however, that this is an
advantage to which such a candi
date would be well entitled;because
say they, it is nonsense to say that
the candidate shall be taken from
Taylor, and at the same time refuse
the Democrats of that county
the privilege of saying which of
the candidates they prefer.
This is a mattter for considera
tion of the Senatorial Democratic
Executive Committee of this dis
trict.
There is nothing, however, to
prevent the Democrats of this
county from expressing their pref
erence as between the candidates
now before the people, provided,
the Democratic Executive Commit
tee of this county will fix a day
for the expression of such prefer
ence,
A Word of IVarnlns.

be, the people regard as
rjonal to themselves—the can-
idates;—nor do they regard them
of such a character as will serious
ly interfere with the discharge of
the duties ot a representative in
the General Assembly of this
State.
We, therefore, again urge upon
the friends of both candidates not
to persist in a course that can ac
complirh no good, but will only
lend bitterness to the canvass and
result in sewing the seeds of discord
in the ranks of*the Democratic par
ty, and in ultimately bringing se
rious regret to those engaged in it.
