Columbus, Ga., Aug. 20.—J. A.
Beard, 80, former policeman of Co
lumbus and former sheriff of Mus
cogee county, died at his home at Co
lumbus recently following an illness
of several days. He served as sheriff
of the county for 20 years and was
past president of the Georgia Sheriffs

and Peace Officers’ association. He
was born in Harris, county and came
to Columbus when a young man. Mr.
Beard was active in the work of the
Baptist church.
Besides Mrs. Beard, two daughters,
Miss Jessie Beard and Mrs. Kendrick
Pierce of Columbus, and one son Paul
of Anniston, Ala., survive.

spread of Mr. Homer Bazemore’s
death in Butler. This being his former
home lie had many friends and rel
atives here who deeply sympathize
with his loved ones.

the home of Mrs. R. M. Suggs arid

The home was very attractive with
beautiful potted plants and cut flow
ers for decorations on this occasion.
