THE DEATH OF ’33
(Rosalind Prager, Miami, Fla)
Mias Allie Gafford spent several
days last week with relatives in Ma
con and Jeffersonville.
The chimes are sweetly pealing; forth
Here's the death of '33
As Cupid darts across all hearts
On rosy ‘‘New Year’s Eve.”
The sign of “death" from the old year
Or the birth of ’34,
As he comes "tripping; io’er the snow”
And knocking; at the door.
His gleaming soul now shows forth
The “glow of his spirit" shows,
It has the “power” of a (riant;
And the “beauty” of a rose.
The light of glory shines o’er him,
His suit case of travels is nigh,
The tnoiibles of the old year;
Have vanished ’neath the sky.
The chimes are sweetly pealing forth
On rosy New Year’s Eve,
As Cupi<| darts across all hearts;
At the death of ’33.

Under the vast program of govern*
mnet aid whereby the state, its coun*
ties and cities, and many of its public
institutions will receive millions of
dollars from the federal government
In promoting increased employment
of labor in permanent projects, there
is a great opportunity to build up the
state aB a whole through the use of
Georgia labor, Georgia materials and
Gtorgia machinery.
It would seem foolish for our gov
ernment to appropriate huge sums of
money for the benefit of our unem
ployed, only to have much of the good
effects lost through using machinery,
materials, etc. brought from without
the state’s borders.Our people should
see to it that no such course of ac
tion is pursued.
For example, the largest single fed
eral aid project is the ten million
dollar fund turned over the state
highway department. With the addi
tion of state’s income from gasoline
taxes paid by her citizens, a sizeable
sum will be expended in the next 12
months on highways in every part of
the state. Here is an opportunity to
capitalize on our many material re
sources by using state products in
this work—for we have the material
the men and the machinery all avail
able in Georgia to do all the highway
work planned under the road pro
gram, As a matter of fact, it would be
no more than right that every pos
sible consideration be given to state
contractors in this highway program,
if the real intent and purpose of the
NRA is to be carried out.
If our state authorities, in differ-
ent departments and institutions,
pursue a settled course of favoring
and building up Georgia through en
couragement of our own industries,
material, men, and what not, it will
be an object lesson in boosting the
use of Georgia products—the actual
maifestation a practical “Buy in
Georgia” movement, which will do
much to make the state conscious of
its own varied resources, to all lines
and give our people the idea of sup
porting our own ins'itutions and in
dustries, our own farms and fruit
growers, and bring about a new and
permanent prosperity to our people.
