TAYLOR COUNTY LEAGUE
UNION MET AT METHODIST
CHURCH FRIDAY EVENING
The Taylor County League Union
met Friday night, Feb. 2nd at the
Butler Methodist church. A long and
interesting program was given and
everyone present seemed to enjoy it
so much. Rev. Shell, of Reynolds
Methodist church, gave the devotional
and he furnished entertainment with
his joking and teasing during the
entire evening.
Miss Lucile Moore motored down
Mrs. Julian Edawrds, II, and little j Columbus with a party of

which the Leaguers always enjoy.
The Reynolds, Wesley, Crowells,

sented. A number of CCC boys came
in to the meeting. We were glad to
Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Jarrell, Mrs.^W. have them present and want them to

of the great men of old paid, hirst,
Socrates said “what stirs your anger
when done to you by others, that do

act toward us”, when asked what one
should do to his friends. Confuscious
said, “d6 not to others what you
would not wish done to yourself.” In
all these statements we note that
they simply forbid doing injury or
hinted benevolence to our friends.
Jesus hits the key note when he
makes the rule positive, constructive
and world wide by commanding active
benevolence.
What Does the Golden Rule Require
First, we must of course avoid do
ing harm. While we may avoid doing
harm to anyone and at the same time
not know the elements of the golden
rule. We might go so far as to do to

IN MEMORY OF DEAR DADDY
The death angel entered the home
of Mrs. George Wilson Oct. 14, 1933
and took our dear daddy who we
loved so well. But God said come, I
need another‘angel to complete my
band and daddy closed his eyes never
to open them again in this world of
sorrow. He has gone where pain and
I unto God it will not always be true
I Whether or not the greater part of
humanity will ultimately be saved is
only a matter of speculation butone
thing we do know is that all the
faithful pilgrims on the narrow way
will be rewarded by eternal life, be
they few or many.
The Truth
“Because of false prophets, who
come to you in sheep’s clothing, but
inwardly are raving wolves." Some
might ask the question, who is the
person that the Master refers to in
this quotation. It is to the professed
Christian. It refers not only to hint
who professes Christianity hut
also he who espouses the
cause of Christ. Filially ■ ne bs-

was wrong. He only posed as a

Dearest daddy we have left you

But our thoughts will always linger,
Around the grave where you are

No one knows the silent heart aches,
Only those who’ve lost can tell,
Of the grief that’s borne in silence,
For the one we love so well.
Sleep on dear daddy, take your rest

God took you home it was his will

right action. The golden rule only
requires what is reasonable and
morally helpful and controlled by ui-
vine intuition.
The Scope of the Golden Rule
Just what does the gulden rule claim
as its scope? Jesus was correct when
he said that it summed up -the law
and the prophets. Lt is the essence of
what is required in the old testament.
In the Epistle of James we are told
.that the golden rule is the royal law
and well may it be termed the royal
law as it made fit subject for the
heavenly kingdom when followed.
Obeying ihe Golden Rule
Who can keep the golden rule?
They who are subjects of the king
dom'. We cannot keep the golden rule
unless we love our neighbor as our
self. And we cannot love our neighbor
as our self unless we love the Lord
with all our mind, soul and body and
when this condition prevails we can
keep the golden rule.
The two rules to love thy neighbor
as thyself and to love the Lord with
all our mind and strength fulfill all
equirements of the golden rule ar.d
must be obeyed if we are to carry
out the ten commandments.
Enter the Narrow Gate
We are told in the liitn verse, “en
ter bythe narrow gate for broad is
the gate that leaus to destruction. 1
We are told that the way to eternal
life is by the narrow gate and few
there be that find it. These statements
lead us to the truth that many times
it requires more effort on our part t-
do the right thing than the wrong
thing. So our own personal effoits to
ward entering into the narrow gate
will count for or against us in life’s
journey. Jesus draws a descriptive
picture ,of the difference between the
good and the bad. At the beginning
of life there is laid out before us two
ways. One way is straight and r arrow
and the other is broad. It is with us
to choose which way we will travel.
We can many times follow the broad
way without any effort, but to travel
the narrow wya requires effort on
our part. The devil conies in for nis
work on entering the broad road
which leads to destruction. He point.-
out to the erring the beauty of the
way ar.d the pleasures that are to he
encountered on the broad road. We
might say that the devil is the traf
fic officer that directs travel on the
. ad that leads to destruction. And
the way looks enticing and if we are
rot careful some of its beauties and
pleasures will draw us down its way.
As one travels this way and ad
vances the enticements are not so
great, ard the farther one journeys
the rougher will be the going, final-
j v leading to the houndless "ha’m
and we ran go no farther and finally
we will he lost ard likely topple over
into this chasm of destruction. On
the other hand hand when we start
traveling the farrow way it becomes
smoother the further we go ard the-

Appearance of the False Prophet
The one who is a false prophet is
false in his appearance lor he dons
the apparel of the good. Truly he is
dressed in sheep’s clothing. He as
sumes the attitude of the most hum
ble. He wants the world to call him
good and pious.
What He Really Is
He comes to you in sheep’s cloth
ing. Inwardly they are raving wolves
They are not only deceivers hut they
d,o more than merely deceive. Their
intention is to ruin and destroy". They
are greedy for power ar.d renown.
They are sympathetic and truly it is
said they have the disposition of a
wolf. To carry their point for their
own profiit or gain they will wolf
like turn upon their best friend. Many
times theyare attractive in appeara: ce
and affiable company. We sometimes
even find them in the pulpit. In the
final summing up these false teachers
are wolves in sheep’s clothing. There
is no greater danger to a flock than
one in their midst to be hypocrit. If
he was dressed in wolves’ clothing he
could he known as such and be avoid
ed by those whom he would destroy
So we easily see the greatest danger
lies in the false apparel.
Our Duty to False Prophets
The first thing to do with false
prophets is to heed the warning
agair.st them as laid down in the
scriptures. Then when one is found
expose him. Do not listen to their
teachings and counteract their influ
ence with good influences. Always
turn a deaf ear to them but at the
same time have ears attuned for the
truth. ,
Good Fruit
So much for the wolf in sheep’s
clothing. Now lets look for good in
fluences. In verse 16 we are told that
“by their fruits ye shall know them.”
There is a law of nature that the
fruit of a tree is characteristic ,of the
tree. Oak trees will not produce
grapes, neither will an apple tree
produce pears. Thorned briars will
not produce grain. So we can detect
a false prophet by the fruit he bears
for by their fruits ye shall know
them.
The Tree
The good tree cannot bear bad
fruit neither can the had tree bear
good fruit. The same law applies to
man. A bad man will not bear good
fruit. Neither will a good man bear
bad fruit. It also means that evil
canot produce good and good is never
the producer of evil. Some times we
find an individual that is somewhat
of a mixture, apparently, but this is
just the beginr ing to life of a dual
character on man. Then the man can
say with Paul, “when I would do
good evil is present, with me,” but
the man earnot be depended upon for
we never know where to place him
and such being the case lie cannot be
trusted for a good man at all times.
The only sare plan to pursue is fa
turn the deaf ear to the false proptiet
and always listen for the good man
will show in either his appearance or
actions what he is just aS arthihtle is
recognized by the thistles it bears and
the fig tree by the figs it bears.

cut down and cast into the fire.
The Test of the Tree
Judge a tree by its fruits for by its
fruits a tree shall be known. Conduct
shows the character of an individual.
No hypocrit can bear fruit far the
glory of himself or for the Heaven
ly Father.
Be Ready for the Judgment
There is to be a final reckoning day
Jesus himself will be the judge. Will
the sentence on us be that we are
cumberers of the ground or will the
verdict be that we have born good
fruit to the glory of God and will now
be cared for and protected against
the temptations of the evil one.
The Enj
The loud professions and claims by
those who are not ready far the sen

that great day of judgment. The*

were disciples of the Lord. The Lord
knoweth his own and at last to those
who never professed him he will say
as to the foolish virgins, “I never
knew you.”
Security
In our building for eternity lets not
be like the man who builds his house
on the sand which was all right while
all was quiet and the sun was shining
but toppled when the storms of ad
versity struck it, but be like the man
who founded his house on the solid
rock and when the storms came it
stood there as a vanguard for those
who had inherited a home in heaven.
The two foundations show to us the
everlasting difference between the two
foundations; th difference between
success and failure. The duty of man
is plain and it is imperative. What
will we do? Let oiir answer ever be,
“I will build for eternity.”
