“The only system that we can

the state be governed by 21 com
missioners.
“They would lie elected from
districts composed of from five to
seven counties in each district; one-
third of the terms to oxpire each
year; and these commissioners could
elect one among themselves to serve
ns governor. They would serve with
out salary except for expenses. They
would meet quarterly to transact
the state's business and meet for two
weeks in legislative session --each
year.'
The commissioners would hire ' u
state manager and pay him enough
so he would not have to worry about
where his bread was coming from —
he to appoint the heads of the state
departments, subject to approval by
his commissioners.”

Be Ready Next Monday
Major Lon Sullivan, Department

ers licenses will begin next Monday.
“Present licenses,' he said “exipro
in June and applicants who hold
valid (lermits hut fail to renew be

driver examination before they can
obtain new ones.”
Maj. Sullivan said the renewal
process is much simpler than it was
last year ami should speed up the
issuing process. Application blanks
! will be available either the last of
this week or the first of next at
filling stations, police and sheriff's
offices, garages, and district state
patrol and sub district stations.
The license fee is the same as it
was last year: $1 for an operator's
permit which most drivers hold, and
$7 for a chauffer's icense which nil
for-hire drivers, chaufi’ers, bus and
truck operators, or anyone else who
makes his living driving motor ve
hicles must obtain
Steps in the process are: Il, get
an application blank and fill it in
correctly; (2) attach the .stub from
the toj) of the old license ami a mon

application, stub, and money order
The Commissioner said cooperation
on the part of drivers who send in
early applications correctly made
out and signed w.P facilitate the
work of the department. “v\'e can
prevent the delay experienced in is
suing licenses last s’ miner if drivers
will make application r'gnt away.' he
said .
j “M e have eliminated the slow and
i vpensive process of phe'ographing.
i nd substituted a simple validating
] plan which will enable us to give
much faster and moie accurate serv
ice .with less expense,” Maj. Sullivan
said.
