EDITORIAL
On Tuesday, November 5, Mr.
Folds held a meeting in the audito
rium for the purpose of starting the
“Butler School Journal” on a new
year. Eight members were selected
for the staff of the paper and offic
es were filled so that we could start
work immediately.
We are going to make this year a
greater year than the previous years
have been. We are going to bring
you the best news that can be writ
ten about Butler High School. We
hope to bring you new and interest
ing facts that only happen at But
ler. We hope the Butler School Jour
nal is going to surpass any school
column ever to be published.

HOME ECONOMICS
MUSICAL MINDED
The girls of the Home Economics
classes are really glad to get the
foods laboratory completed. We re
ceived new cabinets for our labora
tory last week, and are they beauti
ful and they are nice too. We have
also gotten our cooking utensils.
For the last few weeks we have
been studying' dinners, breakfast,
and suppers, how they are prepared
and served. We have also been stu
dying the different cuts of beef. So
that we will know the kinds of beel
to buy when we go into our foods
laboratory to cook.
We plan to start cooking very
soon, and this will make us really a
happy hunch of girls as you know
we all like to eat.
We expect to have a very enjoy
able school year and are glad we
chose Home Economics as one of oui
subjects.
Mrs. Waimvright Honored
Mrs. Simpson Waimvright, the for
mer Miss Lorena Binion, member ot
the Home Economics Department
was honored with a Tea Shower by
the Second Year Home Economics
girls on Friday, Nov. 8.
Several very interesting games
were played which added much to
the entertainment.
After the bride opened the gifts
del iciuus refreshments were served
SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
In biology we have been studying
the different kinds of insects such as
the house fly, ants, bee, grass
hopper, moths, mosquitoes and oth
ers.
The grasshopper has been one of
our most interesting studies of which
we had to make a drawing of labeling
all arts.
The bee has also been interesting.
We have learned that they are very
helpful to man. They carry pollen
from one flower to another and make
honey which is very useful as a food.
Outside of the insects we have
studied the crawfish which is very
interesting.
THROUGH THE KEY-HOLE
Miss Guerry, President of the j
Georgia Federated Music Clubs, of I
which we are a member, came down |
to see us Wednesday. Her visit was
a great and plesant surprise. She
was most interested in our Club
work.
The High School had a very in
teresting chapel program Tuesday
morning. We all went up tothe Bap
tist church to hear the new instru
ment, the Solovox. The music was
very beautiful, being much like
real pipe organ. Oscar Adams and
ClydeAfay Green played for ua.
Mrs. Julian Edwards attended the
meeting of the Piano Division of
music teachers of the G. E. A.
Macon last Saturday. Mrs. Kathleen
Rogers Pape is chairman, and led a
most helpful discussion following the
luncheon at the Lanier Hotel.
Wednesday afternoon the St. Ce
cilia Music Club had their October
meeting which everyone enjoyed very
much. We all sang the Club Song
and recited the Creed. The roll was
called. Minutes of last meeting were
lead. The program was then turned
ever to the program chairman.
Frances Watson gave the Historic
Foreword about October. Miss Vivian
Branch gave the musical current
events. Miss Ruth Dunwody gave in
teresting facts about the music on
the radio and in films. Helen Jarrell
gave the birthdays and anniversaries
of the death of some famous com
posers in October. ClydeAfay Green
sang My Heart At Thy Sweet Voice
by Saint Sains. Leetiniae Folds sang
Barcarolle from the opera Tells of
Hoffman by Offenbach.
We have resumed the study oi
People and Music. Oscar Adams gave
the introductory and ClydeAfay
Green gave the first chapter. Thia-J-.r .-
book is very interesting. It tells tbe
origins of people and music, of les
sons learned from nature, of the
power and beauty in the music of a
primitive race in a new world.
Our new Text Book is History
Sings by Gertrude Kincella. Marie
Farks gave the Preface and Fore
word. Helen Bazemore gave the first
chapter.
Music! What magic in the world!
Music expresses so many ideas,
thoughts and emotions which nothing
else so well expresses. May we as
Muisc Juniors study and may our
music be like apples of gold in pic
tures of silver .
We then had a listing period.Mrs
Edwards played several songs and
symphonies whicn a prize was given
to the one .giving the right name and
composer to them all. We had a very
interesting musical game. Refresh
ments were enjoyed by everyone.
Martha Jane and Frances Watson
were hostesses.
