Golden Text; And they were all
amazed at the mighty power of
God.
Time: A. D. 29.
Place: Mt. Hermon- and
Neighboring Vicinities. ,
The Lesson Text
In verse 38, “these sayings”. This
was chiefly the sayings studied in
our last week's lesson. “A Moun
tain." Mathew and Mark say it
was a high mountain. There seems
to be no doubt but what the moun
tain mentioned was Mount Her
mon. This mountain is 9,166 feet
high. Its slopes begin about five
miles northeast of Caesarea Philip

"As He Prayed"
It Is very likely that the subject
of his prayer was his coming death.
The reason for this conclusion Is
from his conversation at the Trans-
flgueration. He had been talking of
it to his desciples and the subject
his
mind. While he was praying his
very countenance was changed.
There comes times now when some
pray in a sense a change comes
over their countenance, but nothing
to compare with the change in the
countenance of Jesus which was
dazzling and glowing like light
ning.
While on the mountain with the
two desciples they were confronted

splendor of heaven.
Shortly after Peter's confession,
while Jesus was praying on a
mountain at night there occurred
a manifestation of divine glory
unlike anything else recorded about
Christ, At first the desciples that
were with Jesus were asleep, but
the appearance of brightness in the
night and the sound of voices
aroused them. Then they beheld a
strange wonderful light radiating
from the very countenance of
! Christ. It was not a reflected light
from without but coming from
the 1 within. His whole person presented
a dazzling appearance as mysteri
ous as It was startling.
Also the desciples saw Jesus with
two men, whom they recognized In
somewa y as Moses and Elijah.
They were talking with Jesus, and
they heard enough after they
awoke to realize that they were
talking about his death. The visit
ors soon disappeared, but a bright
cloud overshadowed them, and they
hear da voice saying that Jesus
was the Son of God.
A civic leader may have a vision
of better housing for poor people,
but if there is no architect to draw
a blue print or a carpenter to build
them the vision will not have
benefitted the poor to any extent.
The same thing applies to our lives
If we have noble aspirations and do
not put these aspirations Into use
they will not be of any value to
ourselves os anyone else.
Many times we belittle a dream,
and well we may belittle dreams
unless they are put into action.
Many of the great inventors of the
the old dispensation, namely
Moses and Elias. These two were
sent to encourage Jesus. He may
have been depressed by a foretaste
of Gethsemane. It may have been

Heavy with Sleep
They were heavy with sleep, a
proof that the Transfiguration was
at night. Even though they were
asleep when Moses and Elijah
first appeared they became wide
the service is so small as compared
with the vision as • hardly to be
worth the doing. A vision obeyed la
by the obedience made so mighty
that a small deed becomes impor
tant. One vote does not win an
election, but many votes do. Paul
was carried by a vision in spirit
Into the heavens and received an
overwhelming vision. It was im
portant that this vision be told to
the world. It would be a power that
could be used in a mighty way to
the ongoing of God's Kingdom in
the world. Truly what Paul saw
was a vision of heaven itself.
What could Paul do about spread
ing the news of this vision? He
could write a letter telling what he
saw and heard. That letter is still
read and has helped to lift
churches in a cause that has
spread to the ends of the earth.
Lets then ask ourselves this
question: What can I do as a wit
ness? There are many things that
we can do if we are empowered by
a complete surrender to God.
Unmapped Ways
Too many of us are on life's
way and do not know where we are
going. We have chosen no certain
goal nor marked out any particu
lar course. We have been without
vision. God grant unto us a vision
and help us to use It for our
earthly tasks.

happened till after his resurrection.
When they were coming down the
mountain he who had communed
with God and his prophets in the
very atmosphere of heaven, now
mingles and associates with the
common life of men, and concerns
himself with their troubles. Even In
this region where Jesus had
sought seclusion, his fame had
evidently spread and people wer^
drawn to him.' When on the next
day many people had met Jesus,
and behold a man in the crowd
cried out, "Master, I beseech thee
to look upon my son for he is my
only child, and lo a spirit taketh
him and he suddenly crieth out and
it teareth him, thathe foameth,
again and buislng him hardly de
parted from him.” The man tells
Jesus that he had begged of the
desciples that his son be healed
and they could not. Jesus answered
this by saying, ‘‘oh faithless and
perverse generation, how long shall
I be with you and suffer you?
Bring thy son thither.” Demons
cannot stand the presence of Jesus
and as the boy was approaching
him in accordance with Jesus'
commandment the demon made a
final assault on his victims con
vulsing him severely. This was an
evidence of the mighty power of
God and they knew that no power
short of this could have brought
about such a cure.
