On the evening of Palm Sunday
an Easter Cantata, “The Resurrec
tion Song”, was presented at the
local Methodist church under trie
able direction of Rev. C. L. Glenn.
Members of the Baptist and Meth
odist choirs united for this evening
of music. The choir of twenty-
four voices and Mrs. E. G. Black-
well, the pianist, were dressed in
white vestments and black ties.
Beautiful and impressive was
the Processional, “Onward Chris
tian Soldiers,” as members of the
choir entered the church and took
their places. The story of the
Resurrection was beautifully told
in song, closing with the trium
phant number, “Now is Christ
Risen.”
The citizens of Butler are deeply
indebted to Rev. C. L. Glenn, Mrs.
E. G. Blackwell and each of the
singers for an evening of helpful

a change that transformed his en

risen Christ. We must take into
consideration the fact that what
Paul saw was a vision of the liv
ing Christ. It was not Jesus in
the flesh, but a glorified face sit
ting at the right hand of God in
an exalted state. Paul on the road
experienced what every redeemed
soul has experienced. We should
realize that this transformation

How the Dead Are Raised
In studying the first six verses
of our lesson text we are intro
duced to the main thought of the
lesson. The 15th chapter of I
Corinthians is mainly Paul's de- made a physical creature. He was

resurrection. There was a wide
spread opinion among the early
Christians that the matter of the
resurrection was of little im
portance. Paul threw the force of
his gerat mind against this idea.
It would seem that some people
wished to know how the deau
were raised. Paul used as an illu
stration a seed. He told them that
they could not believe that a hard
dry seed could produce a gorgeous
flower. We plant a seed in the
ground and it dies, but that is not
the end of it. This decayed seed
comes forth from the ground with
form and beauty, which can only
be given by the God or the uni
verse. Paul declared to them that

had. Because he was disobedient
he fell. By doing this he damaged
the spiritual capacities with
which he was endowed. Jesus
Christ came to earth to restore in
man what Adam had lost thru
disobedience. Adam chose the
natural and refused the spiritual.
Jesus by being obedient to the
wishes of his Father restored for
celestial , quality man which
would not have been since Adam
had sinned. The first Adam be
came a living soul. The last
Adam became a life : givjng soul.
The main gospel teaching is that
God manifested himself to us
through Jesus Christ, and that
through faith we can become
they thought it marvelous that a identified with him. Christ's res-
dead body buried in the ground urrec tion makes this possible. We
could ever be raised a thing of ce
lestial beauty and power but you
see no miracle in the planting of
a seed and its growth afterwards,
yet you never think ol a latent
beauty which lies in ti e hard lit
tle seed.
Paul’s teachings in the case of
the seed and the dead body is
that all the process of life is a
miracle and that the resurrection
is only the elevating of a process
with which we are all familiar in
the gardens and fields.
Growth and Glory
We begin with our lesson.
"There is one glory of the sun,
and another glory of the moon,
and another glory of the stars, for
one star differeth from another
star in glory. Paul r.eans in this
statement that earthly life has a
glory of its own and that heaven
ly life has a glory, but the glory
of the heavenly is far greater
than the glory of the earthly.
When Paul wants to • describe
the glory of a risen life, he em
ployes as figures the heavenly
bodies, the sun, moon, and stars.
When he wishes to describe the
transformation of the earthly life
into the heavenly, the corruptible
life into the incorruptible, the
mortal life into the immortal, he
uses the figure of the seed and
its growth.
We cannot understand how a
hard and often ugly seed can be
transformed into a beautiful plant
but we know that such a transfor
mation takes place. Neithher do
we understand how our bodies
dead and buried in the ground
are taught by Paul that the nat
ural comes first and that the
spiritual follows. Man is first
born in the flesh. This birth
neither saves nor condemns us
because of this birth of the flesh.
Spiritual life must be born later
with a more mature experience,
i This is what Jesus meant when he
told Nicodemus that he must be
born again. Our earthly birth
makes us children of Adam. Our
spiritual birth makes us heirs of
God.
We are bom into the world
creatures, and we are reborn as
Christians. Some people never ex
perience the new birth. These are
earthy and they fail to believe.
They love this world and live for
nothing but to satisfy their eartn-
ly appetite and passions. This
heavenly life of which the second
birth brought us into begins be
fore death. The allimportant ques
tion with us is not that we are
going to heaven in the future, but
whether we are going there now.
If we live a life of faith and love,
then heaven has started for us
here on earth. When such is the
case we live every day amid its
joys.
Then turn to the other side cf
picture. If we live in disbelief wc
are in hell, and death only in
tensifies what it has begun. So
we sow here on earth; we reap in
part here; and we reap fully be
yond the grave.
The final summary of what
Paul said is: “I have a mystery to
tell you.” He di dnot say he would
explain it. He only says this is the
