Engagement Announced
Macon, Aug. 10—The engage
ment of Miss Edna Meldina Un
derwood of Macon to Dr. John Paul
Jones of Macon and Atlanta is
announced today by her parents
Mr. and Mrs- Udolphia Sikes Un
derwood of Reynolds. The couple’s
marriage is planned for early fall.
Miss Underwood’s mother is the
former Miss Martha Jane Brown,
daughter of the late Mr. and Ms.
John Cater Brown of Hawkinsville.
Her paternal grandparents are the
late Mr. and Mrs. John Howard
Underwood of Reynolds. The bride-
elect was graduated from Reynolds
High schooi and studied music,
designing and commercial sewing
at' Monroe A. and M. She was a
member of the Glee club, spons
club and music club.
Dr. Jones is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Rudolph Wagner Jones of
Macon and his only brother is Dr-
Rudolph Wagner Jones Jr., of New
York. His mother is the former
Miss Gladys Marie Hawkins,
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
B. B. Hawkins of Atlanta and his
paternal grandparents are the late
Mft and Mrs. B. F. Jones of Atlan
ta.'.
£>r. Jones was graduated from
the University of Georgia in 1937
and from the University of Georgia
School of Medicine in 1941. He >*as
a member of Alpha Tau Omega
fraternity and president of Alpha
Kappa Kappa medical fraternity.
Entering the army in 1942, he serv
ed two years in the European
theater with the Eighth Air Foret
as group surgeon. In 1945 ne was
discharged with the rank of major
and he is now on the house staff
of Grady Memorial Hospital in
Atlanta-

School for several years.
