Is Scene of Impressive
Whatley-Byrd Wedding
The Reynolds Baptist Church was
decorated beautifully with palms,
magnolias and ferns banked a-

afternoon of Miss Gloria Whatley,
the only daughter of Mrs. Troy
Whatley to Mr. Garland T. Byrd,
son of Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Byrd of
Reynolds.
The Neptial music was presented
by Miss Anne Montgomery of
Plains, Mrs. B- W. Hinton of Rey
nolds, soloist, and Mr. Donald
Whatley of Reynolds, soloist
The tapers were lighted by Troy
Whatley, the only brother of the
bride, and Millard Shepherd, Jr., of
Savannah, cousin of the bride.
Usher-groomsmen were Messrs.

Byrd of Roberta, Dan Payne, Willi
am Whatley, Hugh Byrd, and Juli

Miss Harriet Daniel of Molena
was maid of honor and brides

and Dorothy Hinton of Reynolds,
Katherine Andrews, Columbus, and
Mary Waggoner of Covington. The
attendents were gowned alike in
white satin and net dresses with
sp-ays of ostrich feathers and the
bridesmaids carried fan bouquets
of red glamelias and wore green
satin ribbon halos and long green
net gloves. The maid of honor’s
flowers were red and white glad
ioli and her halo and gloves were
white.
Misses Janice Whatley and Bon
nie Hoats were the flower girls.
They wore white organdy dresses
fashioned like the bridesmaids and
had white halos They carried
whitesatin baskets lined with green
and filled with red and white rose
petals.
Mr. Thurman Whatley, the
bride s uncie, gave her in marriage.
She was exquisitly lovely in her
wedding gown of heavy white sa
tin with Chantilly lace. Her finger
tip veil was caught to a coronet
of seed pearls. Her only ornament
was a strand of pearls, gift of the
groom. The bride carried a white
satin prayer book adorned with a
white orchid, showered with gard
enias, jasmine and stephanotis.
Her hand-embroidered linen hand
kerchief was one which had also
been carried by her mother and her
grandmother when they married.
iThe groom’s brother, Mr. Thomas
Byrd, was best man.
Rev. W. B. Hoats, pastor of the
church, performed the double .ring
ceremony- Mr. Donald Whatley
the prayer in song while the couple
knelt on a white satin pillow.
Following the wedding, Mrs. Troy
Whatley was hostess at a brilliant
leception at the club house. Re
ceiving the guests were Mrs. Troy
Whatley, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Byrd,
parents of the groom, and the wed
ding party. Miss Ann Neisler kept
the bride’s book and serving were

and served the beautiful three
tiered wedding cake.

The bride and groom left imme
diately for a wedding trip to
Louisiana and Texas. The bride
looked lovely in a two piece linen
suit with red, white and black
plaid skirt, black jacket and white
tie. She used black accessories and
wore a white orchid corsage. ,
Many Social Affairs
Planned in Recent Weeks
in Honor of Bride-Elect
One of the most brilliant events
of the past week was the Miscel
laneous Shower given Miss Gloria
Whatley by Mrs. Harry Powell, Mrs
Irene Whatley, Mrs. Clay W’hatley
Mrs. Ben Hinton and Mrs. Edgar
Whatley at the Woman’s Club.and
Chapter House.
The Club House was beautifully
decorated with ferns, lilies, tube
roses and other cut flowers, using
yellow and white as the color
scheme in both the |decorations
and the refreshments.
As the guests entered they were
served punch by Misses Margaret
Woods and Ann Halley. Next,
slips of paper and pencils were
passed to all to make a wish,
toast or give a recipe to thebride-
elect, each signing their names to
be kept as a keep-sake of the oc
casion.
Miss Frances Neisler, pianist,
gave a beautiful audition of Cho-
1 pin’s Etude. ,
Dan Whatley, cousin of the j
bride-elect, accompanied by his *
mother, Mrs. Edgar Whatley gave
several beautiful vocal solos in his
usual easy manner. Mrs. Whatley
then played the wedding march
and all enjoyed the Tom Thumb
wedding—Lynn and Lamar Rus
sell acting as the bride and groom
Rebecca Mims as maid-of-honor
and Mack Goddard as ring bearer.
Mack presented the ring to the
bride-elect on a shower gift
wrapped to represent a satin pil
low and on this pillow also was
the horoscope of the bride which
she read aloud. At this time four
girls: Misses Marian Newsome,
Loraine Baker, Ann Neisler and
Dathine Brunson, all dressed in
beautiful evening gowns began to
bring fn the gifts in baskets cov
ered in white crepe paper. Alter
each gift was unwrapped by
Gloria, assisted by Miss Dorothy
Hinton, they were handed to
Misses Frances and Mary Louise
Neisler |who passed them on to
the guests. Later refreshments of
white brick ice cream and little
cakes iced in yellow were served
to about ninety guests.
Another high light of the What
ley-Byrd wedding was the spa
ghetti supper given to the bridal
party Wednesday night before the
rehearsal by Mrs. Troy Whatley.
About twenty five guests enjoyed
Mrs. Whatley’s hospitality. This
supper was served in the back
yard of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hinton’s
home.
