NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION

STATE OF GEORGIA,
COUNTY OF TAYLOR:
Pursuant to the resolution of
the General Assembly of Georgia,
approved the 25th day of Febru
ary, 1949, known as a resolution
“authorizing and directing that a
referendum be submitted to the
voters of Georgia on the question
of approval or disapproval of ad
ditional State financial support for
education, rural highways, public
health, public welfare services, aid
to counties and for other purposes;
for the approval or disapproval of
the levy of additional taxes for the
support of such services”, a special
election is hereby called to be held
on Tuesday, the 5th day of April,
1949, at the Taylor County court
house in the City of Butler, said
state and county and at each es
tablished election precinct in said
County outside of said City.
At such special election there
shall be submitted to the voters of
the County who are qualified to
vote for members of the General
Assembly as of February 1, 1949,
the question of whether or not ad
ditional taxes shall be levied by
action of the General Assembly
for the purpose of furnishing ad
ditional financial support for edu
cation, rural highways, public
health, public welfare services, aid
to counties and for other purposes.
Such election shall be held ac
cording to the rules and regula
tions governing elections for mem
bers of the General Assembly.
Those voting in this election
shall have printed on their ballots
the following words:
"Vote For One
( ) "I favor financing the con
tingent appropriations made
by the General Assembly for
public health, education, aid
to counties, rural highways,
public welfare services and
for other purposes, and I re
quest that the General As
sembly levy such additional
taxes as are necessary to
provide the funds.
( ) “1 oppose financing the con
tingent appropriations made
by the General Assembly for
public health, education, aid
to counties, rural highways,
public welfare services and
for other purposes, and I
request that the General As
sembly do not levy addition
al taxes to provide the
funds.”
For receiving ballots in said
election on said date, the polls will
be opened at the hour of 7:00
o’clock A. M. and will be closed at
the- hour of 6:00 o’clock P. M.

Taylor County, Georgia, and
bounded as follows: North, by
lands of Mrs. F. H. Bone; South, by
lands of Gus Edwards and Lem-
mie McCrary; West, by lands of
Joe Willis. Also, being the same
land as described in a Sheriff’s
Deed dated December 3, 1940 to
Commissioners of Roads and Reve
nue, recorded in Deed Book “X”,
pages 595, 596, 597 and 598, Clerk
Superior Court’s Office of said
County.
The same to be sold under and
by virtue of a power of sale em
braced in a Security Deed in favor
of E. L. Wilson, signed by Paul
Hicks, dated January 19, 1948 and
due July 1, 1948, for the purpose
of securing an indebtedness of
Five Hundred Seventy-Three Dol

and expenses of sale, together with
interest at the rate of eight per
cent (8%) per annum on the

said debt having become due and

Macon Girl, Wins
Wesleyan Award
Macon—The $1,000 scholarship in
Wesleyan College’s annual compe
tition for high schools senior went
to a Macon girl.
Miss Lois Anita Locklin, a sen
ior at Miller high school and the
daughter of Mrs. Evelyn C Lock
lin, is the winner. She is an honor
student and belongs to the school
orchestra, among other activities.
The Miller student won over 134
other contestants from Maine to
Texas.
The scholarship examination was
a standard objective -test admin
istered to students in their local
high schools on March 5 and
awards of from $900 to $500 were
made to the five students ranking
highest after Miss Locklin.
