The religious life of the town has
been ministered to by three
churches. The Baptist and the
Methodist on the plot set aside for
the hoped-for court house; and the
Primitive Baptist in the suburbs.
At one time, the town also had a
Christian Science church, but for
lack of membership and support,
this was abandoned and the build
ing moved and converted into a
residence. The Baptist church was
originally known as Union and was
located three miles out of town on
the Corbin plantation. A*number of
early settlers are buried in the
cemetery near this church. It was
at Old Union that the landed
aristocracy held membership and
iheir monthly gatherings were
marked somewhat by the pomp
and splendor of that day. As the
village of Reynolds grew, however,
it was thought best to have the
church more conveniently and
centrally located and the present
Baptist church was erected. Perhaps
the most active member of this
church when it first came to Rey
nolds was Capt. Joe Carson, who
had brought back from war-torn
Virginia a beautiful Virginia girl as
his bride. Capt. Carson built the
home now owned by Mrs. J. M.,
Weaver and reared his family
there. Later, Mr. Marion Bryan was
for years the’ most active and
prominent member of the church
The Methodist church was organ
ized about the same time that the
Baptist church was moved here
and was built upon a part of the
old Paris House lot. This church
building was later moved across
the street and converted into the
residence now occupied by Mrs. C.
L. Smith and'a new church of wood
was built upon the site of the
present edifice. This church grew
in strength, and in 1918, this
wooden building was torn down and
replaced by what is one of the
most handsome church edifices to
be found in any small town. The
Primitive Baptist church stands
upon the site of the original
church, but the old building has
been tom down and a newer and
better erected.
And Time still marches on, mak
ing history, day by day’. '
